A Look at Various Types of Archery Arrow Rests - By: Darrin Swain
The arrow rest is one of the most important pieces of equipment for any archer. You can draw and release without having to worry about the arrow falling out of position thanks to a good arrow rest. There are different types of rests that you can use. Here is an overview of the different types of archery arrow rests.
Drop-Away
Drop-away rests are often referred to as fall-away rests. At the moment that the arrow is shot, this type of rest will drop away. Archers like this type of rest because they don't have to worry about fletching clearance. Helical fletchings even work well with these rests. This type of rest uses prongs to cradle arrows. However, they are usually much better at keeping the arrow in position since they typically use large notches.
You should know that this type of arrow rest may be very difficult to install yourself. Installation and precise tuning can be tricky, especially if you don't know what you're doing. This is why these rests should usually be installed and tuned by a pro.
Containment
Containment archery arrow rests will definitely keep the arrow from falling out of position. The arrow can be completely enclosed by some containment designs. Other designs only touch the arrow at three contact points. These rests usually prove to be easy to install and tune. Many different types of arrows are compatible with this type of rest.
Potential damage to the fletchings is one concern when using a containment rest. The feathers' edges may eventually become ragged. If you're using plastic vanes, they may wrinkle. However, this is only a problem if the rest was designed to make contact with the fletching. However, proper clearance can be tricky if the design doesn't make contact. The nock and fletching will need to be aligned correctly. Straight fletching usually works best.
Shoot-Through
Many, many archers use shoot-through rests. With this design, the arrow is placed on top of two prongs that are slightly spaced apart. When you shoot, the prongs flex forward and down. Some designs have prongs that also spring back into position. This allows you to get another shot off quickly.
This type of rest is among the cheapest on the market. They're also easy to install. You can probably get one for $20 or so.
However, you will mainly need to use straight vanes with this type of rest. Using helical or offset fletchings can make for clearance problems. You should also know that the prongs don't contain the arrow. Therefore, they can easily fall off. The arrow can easily be knocked off by a strong wind or a drawstroke that's uneven.
Pressure
One of the final types of rests is the pressure or shoot-around rest There are also pressure or shoot-around rests. This design is usually only used by finger shooters. This type of rest helps limit the amount of horizontal oscillation that finger shooters experience. It's called a pressure rest since it puts pressure on one side of the arrow to counteract the oscillation. The amount of pressure exerted on the arrow can be adjusted so that you can tune your bow correctly.

Healthier for summer? - By: Sunil Jajodia
It can seem that almost every day new scientific findings point to how exercise is absolutely vital to human health and well being. Not only does it keep the body flexible an in shape, burning off excess calories, it also helps to ward off stress and boost mood. There are loads of sports or activities for people to choose in order to stay fit and healthy. Which are chosen will depend on individual taste, ability level and cost. Young people in schools in the UK take part in mandatory physical education lessons from a young age, helping them to stay healthy and to learn how exercise can be enjoyable. Hockey is one of the most popular school sports, learned across the world by people from all sorts of backgrounds and cultures. Those who are enthusiastic about hockey can spend a very long time becoming as proficient as possible at the game, as well as learning the whys and wherefores of hockey sticks.
The summer season is just round the corner, and the warm weather is inspiring loads of people to take up a new outdoor pursuit. For some gardening provides exercise, good fun and fresh air, as does taking the dog for a walk, or maybe just going for a scenic walk alone. Others prefer to take part in a more structured or competitive sport such as football, cricket or rugby. No matter which sport is chosen, getting the right sports equipment is key. A lot of people who are unfamiliar with a certain sport do not realise just how specialist good equipment is. An example of this is the number of people who learned hockey at school who do not understand the differences between hockey sticks. For school matches, this may not be overly important, but on actual teams the kind of hockey sticks used can make a big difference. Using good quality sports equipment is important to all kinds of games, and rules of play often specify the sizes and weights of balls, bats and sticks, as well as setting out which material they can be made from.
Anyone looking to take up a new sport this summer should be advised to spend quite some time researching and considering which sort of activity would suit them best. If just beginning a fitness regime then starting out slowly and gradually increasing energy levels is a good idea. Looking on the internet can help individuals to judge which kind of activity they like. Reputable sources online often outline exactly how a game is played, its rules and regulations. People who participate in different sports often write about their experiences, highlighting pros and cons of their subject. Having found a sport to suit, the next step is to look for a local club or team. In smaller communities teams are often quite informal, and if new to an area can also be a great way of getting to know people. As with anything, practice in sport improves performance, so grab your hockey sticks and get going!

Flying Training Story - Almost Upside Down at Night - By: Frederick Longe
With all of your flight training, there will be times when you get the notion that your instructor is mean or doesn't know what they are talking about-perhaps not in such a bold way, but it will happen. This brings me to a story I have of a night cross-country with a student.
The flight itself is a pretty simple one and is safe for night flights. The flight goes from Mesa Falcon Field to Wickenberg, Arizona. I have personally put this flight in my syllabus for many reasons. I have gotten into many arguments with instructors who worked for me about this flight. Several of them refused to do the flight and instead ended up taking the student down to Tucson. As far as I am concerned, this defeats the purpose of the night cross-country. Following a big lit-up highway in between two bright major cities does not expose you to the real situations that can happen on a night cross-country.
Don't let your instructor take you to an easy-to-find destination that is lit up like New York City. Go somewhere that is pretty difficult to find, at least for you, not your instructor. Yes, you want to make sure the instructor knows where he is going to land in the event of an engine failure, but you need to be on a flight that can get you into a little bit of trouble if you aren't paying attention.
Back to my story.
I will call the student John. You know that I am totally against using all these high-tech things for private pilot training and even instrument ratings. Remember what job number one of the pilot is ? Yes, fly the airplane! I have also already stated that it will take you about 500 hours before you have this second sense stuck in you inner memory. Even then, a difficult situation will be a battle between many parts of your brain at the same time.
John called me in the afternoon about his night flight. We verified the time, and at the end of the call, John stated that he had just gotten his new Garmin 95 latest-and-greatest GPS device and asked if he could bring it along. You probably know me pretty well by now and know exactly what my answer was: "No!"
John showed up at the airport with his cross-country planned and flight plan filed, and ready to go. Before we walked out of the office, out came that shiny new Garmin box. "Fred, you need to check this out . . . this is the new Garmin 95, top-of-the-line, latest-and-greatest . . . " This was back in 1996. Garmin was a no-name back then and was just getting into the market.
"Please, please, please can we take it with us?" After all the begging, I finally gave in. Deep in my mind somewhere, I had a little smile, and a voice just said, "Okay."
Before John even started his pre-flight, he set up his new Garmin 95 on the control column. I knew right then that we were in for a good time! I told John that he couldn't turn it on until we got out of Phoenix airspace, which is right where it starts to get nice and dark. He said, "Okay, no problem."
We took off and headed west as planned. John was right on the money with all of his checkpoints and times. Flight plan opened at the right time. He was getting an A+ at this stage of the ball game. We got about five miles west of Deer Valley airport, where it starts to get nice and dark. (Again, don't do a night cross-country when there is a full moon! It is nice to see the big bright moon from 4,500 above the ground, but it makes your night cross-country easier. If you are doing your first night flight as a licensed pilot with your girlfriend/boyfriend, go for it-that is the safe thing to do.)
John looked at me with those puppy eyes and asked, "Can I turn it on?" At this point, I just looked at him and said, "Yes." The little voice in my head spoke to me again, "Now it is time for the real lesson to begin."
John turned on the new greatest gift to mankind. The screen came on, and he said, "Look, Fred, isn't this great? It tells you everything!" The little voice in my head said, "Yeah. Right. It tells you everything except what your #1 job in an airplane is."
John kept playing with his new toy. I learned way back in 1989 that there are times when the flight instructor's job is to shut up and let the student go. This was definitely one of those times.
At first, John had it under control. He was following his line on the screen and was okay, but I knew that sooner or later, it was going to distract him from his number one job . . . Yes, fly the airplane!
A little while passed, and John decided to start playing with the screen options. I knew now that the big lesson had begun, so I just sat there. Slowly, his altitude started to go up and down-not very much at first, but I knew it was just going to get worse.
I looked at John, and his head was down looking right at the GPS. By the way, the time frame of this entire lesson was probably less than a minute.
John continued to look down and said, "Hm, I can't find the screen I am looking for." I just sat there. Slowly, he started a right turn, only a few degrees bank, heading right into the mountains. The plane began to slowly lose altitude as the right turn started to get steeper. There was no horizon at all, so John had no clue of what was going on. Luckily, he was one of the students that took my aerobatic option before solo, so he was familiar with extreme unusual attitude. But not at night.
Slowly but surely, the plane had entered the dreaded graveyard spiral at cruise power setting. I waited and waited, hoping that the sound of the wind howling across the airplane would give him a clue, but nope-he had been trained for this many times, but he didn't pick it up.
The plane kept going into a steeper bank. If it had been daytime, I would have let him get upside down, but not at night. Finally, it was time to open my mouth. "Anything wrong?"
John looked up, and the string of four-letter words began to flow. He got the plane under control. Power back wings level and nose level. However, he was still heading on the quickest path to meet God, right into the mountains a few miles north of the very dimly lit highway I plan as my emergency landing spot.
I said to him, "What can you see in front of you?" "He replied with, "Nothing." I said, "So that means . . . ?" I got the reply, "I am flying right into the ground." That answer was pretty much correct; with his new heading, he was flying straight into the hills. Since we lost about 1,500 feet, our altitude was perfect for the big smack.
I raised my voice slightly and said, "If you can't see anything, you are in trouble. Find some light, start climbing, and head in that direction."
John got the plane under control, turned the GPS off, and we had an uneventful flight to Wickenberg and then back home to Falcon Field.
When we got back on the ground, John said, "I think I am going to learn to fly before I worry about that GPS." He also requested some night unusual attitude training. I also highly recommend this.
So again, the little lesson is fly the airplane! John got distracted from that job by his little GPS. If you insist on using this stuff, make sure you know how to use it, and don't try to learn it in the plane, especially at night!
As far as disorientation goes, it can happen very quickly, and when it does, it is not going to be pretty. It has happened to me in actual instrument conditions. I had all my ratings, and it still took a few minutes before the blood pressure went down.
Just remember this little unusual attitude check, which you should be able to repeat at the bar when you are about to fall on the floor:
Airspeed High, Or, "I Hear the Wind Howling Outside the Plane"
1: Power Back
2: Wings Level
3: Nose of the Airplane Level
4: Once You Have the Plane under Control, then bring the power back in, and get back to your altitude and heading
Airspeed Low: or" I don't hear any wind blowing outside the airplane"
1: Nose Forward
2: Wings Level
3: Once you have the nose at descent attitute, then add power. Why? If you do not remember, please read my spin training story.
If you are out on a dark night, you are going to be fighting that attitude indicator. Get some training on night unusual attitudes. Then come back a few weeks later and do it again until you automatically react, especially after some time has gone by.
Make sure you go somewhere that is not easy, and make sure it is on a dark night. Don't cut yourself short on your Private Pilot Training
Hope to See You in the Sky

Free advice for lottery winners - By: Gavin Evan
Millions of people around the world participate in lotteries and the lucky ones amongst them win. Many people have won lotteries using tips and advices from the experts. Usually, winners of lotteries play with syndicate rather than alone. Playing as part of a syndicate is a pretty good idea, simply because it is a definite way to increase your chances of winning.
In many ways, however, winning a lottery is the easy part. At least, life doesn’t necessarily dramatically improve once you have won. After winning, many people do become millionaires. Some even become billionaires. At the end of the day though, anyone who wins a sizeable amount of money tends to have a new problem. That is, they do not know what they should do with the huge amounts of money. If it’s only a moderate amount of money, there might be some question as to whether a person should think about using their winnings to play in another UK lottery, Euro millions, or the Spanish El Gordo.
Having money can be a lot more difficult than being without it so here are a few words of advices for the winners of lotteries.
First of all, syndicates distribute money according to the ratio of investment established by the pool members. The second thing is to pay taxes on the winnings.
There is a time limit for every lottery winner to claim their share, so it is very important that you claim promptly. In claiming your money it is also preferably that you should hire an attorney. It is better that you take your amount on annual basis. The one lump-sum payment is not suitable as you can use the amount on installments. The installments also create a very suitable chance for you to get used to the new trends in the market and save you from not thought of expenditures.
Once these two steps are complete, then it becomes time to think of spending the winnings wisely. You might easily set up a personal business or buy a piece of land, the price of which will keep on increasing over the years.
The sensible option as far as your life goes is to keep doing what you have always done. Many people choose to keep their jobs and place their money into a savings account so that at the end of two or three years, you should be able to secure sufficient profit from your money.
The use of money varies according to the needs of each individual. If you have ever borrowed money – taken a loan to pay for your home or a car, perhaps – then one of the most obvious things is to start by paying off that debt, and any others that you have.
It’s also advisable to ensure that lottery owners do not display your photo anywhere. This might bring a lot of trouble your way; you never know what exactly. As the news of success hits the four corners of city, may be better that you change your phone number and interact with only your most trustworthy friends. Make sure that your lottery winnings are deposited in your account.
The winner has to take the advice of experts on this issue as there are legalities involved in the process. It’s fair to say that things can be made unnecessarily complicated if you do not take precautions, if you do not take charge early on. For instance, there are many rules involved in the transfer of money, and it is overall a process in which attorneys are best able to assist.
Some people advice that it is better for lottery winners, being rich, to avoid becoming too selfish in the way you manage your winnings; that is, it can be very rewarding to contribute to charity. This is also pretty easy, if you win a sizeable share of the jackpot for El Gordo or Euro millions, that you help someone out with a little money; family or close friends are the obvious choice for such charitable efforts. If you want to be particularly ambitious, you can certainly invest your money in social programs or private charities.
At the end of the day, it is up to you to decide how you spend your money. You should consider all of the above mentioned ideas to collect and utilize the money you win. Above all, careful planning is useful to ensure that you do not waste your winnings and spend it rashly.

The World's Biggest Lottery: El Gordo in Profile - By: Gavin Evan
El Gordo is one of the biggest lotteries in the world. It offers 2.2 billion Euros in prizes in its Christmas draw. El Gordo also takes its name from a Spanish festival and has been running for about two hundred years.
The El Gordo sells tickets in a groups of ten. The people who paid 200 Euros for this draw got the full prize. Participation wasn’t restricted to Spanish locals. The people of Nava from the Western Austrian Region had the biggest share in the winning ticket in 2008.
The draw usually runs for three hour in Spain and Madrid's San Ildefonso school’s students announce the winning number and the winning amount. The announcement is pretty musical, usually sung aloud by the school children.
This year Spain spent €2.87 billion on this event, which is 5.7 percent more than what they had spent last year. Seventy percent of that amount was given to the winners as prizes.
People of Spain don’t choose their ticket numbers randomly. They always chose the number of their ticket that matches significant dates or events. But in 2007 there was no specific favorite number for the people. In 2006 many people chose 22105 as their ticket number. This is the date on which Fernando Alonso became famous.
The main El Gordo draw, “El Gordo de la Primitiva”, is scheduled during Christmas. Non-Spanish people know this event as "El Gordo". Fpr the El Gordo de la Primitiva draw, players select five main numbers from 1 to 54 and another number from 1 to 9 that is called the key number. To win the game, players need to match exactly six numbers. Each syndicate entry costs the players around 1.50 Euros. People can purchase tickets for this game daily from 8:30 am to 9:00 pm except on Sundays. At 1:00 pm, the draw takes place. You can also play this game as many times as you wish.
There are two ways you can enter this draw; one way is through “simple draws” and second is known as the “multiple draws”.
In a simple draw you can make as many single entries as a standard play slip allow you. To enter this game you just mark once, mark your five main numbers on the first section of the ticket and then mark your Key Number. If you want more entries you can simply mark more selections. This is one of the two ways to play this game.
In multiple draws, you can mark anywhere between 6 to 11 of the main numbers to give you anything from 6 to 462 entries on your one ticket. Your key number should be marked on the second main section of the play slip. It is also compulsory to mark with an X the number of picks you have made.
You can get your prize one of two ways. If you’ve won up to 600 Euros, you can get your prize via any authorized lottery retailer. If you’ve won more than 600 Euros, then you can get it from any commercial office of Loterìas y Apuestas del Estado
In December 2008 “El Gordo” was added to the E-Lottery syndicate to give players from all over the world a chance win this prize.
As this is a National game of Spain and more than 98% people in Spain play this game at Christmas every year. Firstly, this game gives a chance to the player to win a great prize of lottery - €2.20 Billion. Secondly there are other prizes worth a total of €13,332 that are available for players to win.
Many people are unaware that eleven other El Gordo super draws are held each year as well the Christmas draw. Without any doubt, Spanish Christmas Lottery is one of the most expensive lotteries in the world, with tickets that cost €20 each. But it is also among the best lotteries in the world and a particular favorite for lottery enthusiasts.
To play the El Gordo lottery with an above-average chance of winning, sign up to join the E-Lottery syndicate today.

How To Use Race Analysis to Spot Winning Racehorses. Part 3 - By: betfair1
Pedigree, Speed and Stamina.
Pedigree and Potential
The facts about pedigree relate largely to stallions - the males.
Many of the best stallions can sire up to 100 horses in a lifetime.
Pedigree can suggest a lot about young horses in respect of their temperament, their preference for a particular going and distance, and their overall enthusiasm.
As always with racing, breeding is an inexact science.
The quality of the race determines how relevant pedigree becomes. With higher quality racing the results are more intrinsically linked with the pedigree of a horse.
As with anything as random as genetics, it is not possible to say 100% which traits will be inherited from the sire or which from the dam. Or indeed whether anything will be inherited at all.
The study of pedigree however is being moved on by science with geneticists now able to examine a thoroughbreds genetic profile and actually determine which genes have been inherited from dam or sire.
Whatever the ins and outs it is absolutely 100% definite that racing talent is inheritable.
Can a system be devised that will profit from pedigree study and knowledge?
Very few racing systems are infallible so the answer is probably not however pedigree is definitely a factor that can be used to spot young potential winners ahead of the crowd.
Average winning distance - stamina
The RacingPost publishes average winning distances for the offspring of sires. It is known as the stamina index and is used for 2 and 3 year old maidens. It can be found in the form section.
Initially there is no way of telling whether a horse has inherited its stamina from the sire or the dam. But by examining the average winning distance for all horses by 1 particular sire we can say whether a horse is average for that particular sire, or below average.
Advanced stamina index - dosage system
The dosage system reduces possible influences in pedigree from all sires to a select few known as “Chefs de Race”.
The sires are categorized based on the type of runners they produce.
The categories are:
• Brilliant.
• Intermediate.
• Classic.
• Solid.
• Professional.
These categories cover the full gradient of racing in terms of speed vs. stamina. i.e. from sprints to 3 mile chases.
The pedigree experts have analyzed and selected the sires which have had the greatest influence over a long period of time.
The dosage calculations are separated into 3 categories - dosage profile, dosage index, and center of distribution.
To calculate the dosage profile the previous 4 generations of sires are examined and if they contain a Chef de Race then points are awarded depending on which subsequent generation the horse is in.
The dosage index and center of distribution are another calculation of speed and stamina, with higher numbers indicating more speed and lower numbers indicating more stamina.
You can investigate dosage information online:
http://www.PedigreeQuery.com
http://www.chef-de-race.com
Steven Roman of chef-de-race.com is recognized as a true pioneer in collecting and analyzing dosage data.
Obviously the sire statistics change over time and you will need to review them season by season.
Early maturity and intelligence
Another inherited genetic quality is early maturity and intelligence in young horses from particular sires.
A horse displaying these qualities will often be trained with a view to competing in early 2 year old sprints, often with winning results.
Horses from late maturing sires will often be trained more intensively in their 3rd year.
Northern Dancer line sires
In Europe the main lines from Northern Dancer include Sadler’s Wells, Danzig, Nijinsky, Nureyev.
There are so many and they are so influential that they deserve mention in any literature about pedigree.
The Derby
The Derby is the perfect race to apply pedigree analysis and the dosage index.
The Derby field is made entirely of class horses facing Group 1 competition over a mile and a half for the first time.
Stamina and speed are both important in winning the Derby meaning high points are required in both brilliant and intermediate categories in the dosage profile.
In the final part of this series we look at the benefits of paddock watching and how to visually examine a racehorse to spot a potential winner in advance of the media and the crowds.
Bet Fair and Bet Well.

Digital Cameras for Kids - By: DavidCarter
Kids are learning fast, with the improving technology, how to blog and communicate with distant friends and families through email. Therefore, kids find it easier to upload their pictures to the computer and share memorable times rather than developing their own films and using the paper format- which is difficult and tiresome, unless the kid is extremely interested in photography.
Hence, it can be considered as a blessing, the invention of the digital cameras for kids, as it is easy for kids to use (since all they have to do is press the flash button) and will increase the number of kids interested in photography.
Looking from the financial aspect as parents, it is also more economical- buying digital cameras for kids because you do not have to waste money for films because pictures taken once uploaded to the computer can be deleted and the space can be used to take more pictures! Hence, digital cameras for kids is an essential item for them when going for day trips, vacations or outings at friends places.
Digital cameras for kids usually are designed with a colored surface unlike normal digital cameras. Though they are designed to look nice, there are other factors that need to be considered when purchasing digital cameras for kids.
Checking for the availability of expandable memory is important. This is because if digital cameras for kids do not have expandable memory, the kids will not have enough room to take as much as pictures as they would want.
The next important thing to check for in digital cameras for kids is the flash as this would help take pictures at night time as well as in dark places such as indoors.
Next, try to get digital cameras that have USB connection instead of serial connection. This is because USB connection is faster when uploading the images to the computer.
Finally, make sure when checking for digital cameras for kids, to look at the megapixels. If the megapixels number is low, the picture will be of lower quality and would appear blurry.
Unfortunately, most digital cameras for kids do come with lower than usual number of megapixels; therefore just make sure not to buy a camera that has an extremely low number of megapixels.
However, there is a type of digital cameras for kids called Beginner digital cameras which are less expensive and have the features mentioned above. Though the megapixel number is not that high and the picture quality hence will not be that good, if the kid who will be using the camera would get it broken soon, it is advisable to buy one of these less expensive cameras. This is because you can always buy the kid another camera if he/she accidently gets it broken.

Guide to Compound Bows - By: Allan Michael Taylor
Before the 1950s, there were only two options for individuals who loved archery - recurve bows and longbows. Which one you used depended on what you were going to use the bow to do. Target practicers used either style of bow, according to their individual preferences, whilst hunters usually chose recurve bows for their added power - better for felling deer and other big animals. However, the popularity of the compound bow changed things.
Compound bows don't seem a lot like most other bows. They're strung utilizing not one string with loops at the end, but with a nonstop loop. A pair of pulleys increase the force on hand to propel the arrow. One or more of these pulleys is also a cam that allows archers to ease most of the stress in their arms once the bow is drawn. That means that there's no straining to hold the arrow in position. A truer shot is thus possible with a compound bow than with a recurve or a longbow.
Compound bows in addition offer the archer the ability to regulate the power of their bows. Instead of picking a different bow for every draw strength, which we must do if we want to utilize a recurve or a longbow, we can modify a compound bow to certain tolerances. Just altering the cams and pulleys a little means that a different force is created. Other than one person can operate the bow. Just set it in a different way according to strength and size. That's something that we can't do with any other kind of bow.
Of course, compound bows have their particular troubles. It's tricky to string and unstring one of these bows, which can be a little surprising for individuals who are used to other types. Generally, you unstring your longbow or recurve bow to take the tightness off and preserve the limbs. Compound bows, on the other hand, can be strung or unstrung only with the use of special clamps that hold them in position. If you try to do this lacking the precise tools, you might really hurt yourself!
Right now, compound bows are possibly the most sophisticated bows out there. They give a lot more potential power than either longbows or recurves, and they're adjustable. This is a true enhancement over single strength bows. Plus, the ability of these bows to relief tension on the arms of the archer makes it much easier to get a fixed aim and hit the target. These bows are exceptionally popular with hunters, since they're shorter than even recurve bows, and keep the bow from being tangled in growth. That reduces inconvenience and noise. Plus, the additional power makes efficient hunting simpler. If you haven't tried a compound bow, be sure to check one out and see how it works differently than the ones you're used to.

A new functionality for archery - team building - By: Kristine Reeves
Archery is one of the most loved team building actions of the modern man. Humanity has recognized the sport since sometime and the popularity of archery as a team building event is augmentative with the transition of each day. So what gives the special status for archery, which cannot be observed in several of the other routine team building activities. For starters, anyone can be an archer if he is granted ample coaching, training of 15 minutes is more than sufficient and you will be striking marks accurately within nary time. Secondly it is one of the least pricey form of team building, thus will be lighter on the pockets of the team members likewise.
The equipments which are needed for archery is a no brainer, a simple bow and arrow. Since the athletics is comparatively new to the team members, it is invariably best to look for the commands of the event coordinators before starting to strike off everything you might find in your path. A particular amount of pressing must be rendered to the bow’s string so that the arrow is propelled quickly into the target.
The bow and the arrow must be set at a certain tilt, holding them in a direct line will bring out only when the aim is close to the shooter, as the length of the target is increased, the arrow tends to stop travelling in a level line. These are some of the leads that the instructor might be explaining to the team members. So what causes the whole event worth recollecting? The teams are in turn split into smaller groups and competitions are applied among these groups. The squad that shoots the place the most times will be worthy to win the competition. It may look easy to understand, but once you are out in the spread, things are going to overmuch tougher.
The writer had earlier remarked that the event is much cheaper to organize than the other team building events. This is because the prerequisites are distributed. The athletics demands some bows and arrows counting on the number of mortals interested in the team along with some exercise targets. The points can be mobile and shipped to any locale corresponding to the demands of the team. The only costly pieces of the sport are the wearing of expensive protective vests and finger protective cover. Nonetheless, they are almost necessary because we are grappling with fatal equipments and there must not be any room for any kinds of errors.
If the climate is worse, the event can be featured indoors also. This is one of the most fascinating features of the activity. The team members will have to develop their own strategies to successfully hit the object and though it may appear tricky initially, it may process out to be simpler with the transition of time. A skilled sightedness coupled with the ability to gauge the length accurately are many of the essential elements which are required to keep the shooter focused on the objective.

An efficient approach to team building - archery - By: Kristine Reeves
Team building has its own share of vantages and disadvantages. Nevertheless, once we delve deeper into the procedure, we will be able to find that the vantage of the entire process constantly outweighs the disadvantages. Team building always centers on establishing up a stable environment between the different members of a team. It supplies to the productivity of the team and numerous firms have determined an increased efficiency after a team building session. In this article, we shall be looking into several of the most commonly accomplished team building activities specifically archery. Archery may look like an odd choice, but is an effective one.
Archery has been practiced since the yester years itself. Back in those days the mastery over archery was considered as a precious quality and the victors were feared by the mortals. This has been suitably depicted in the various chronicles that you might have read. So how does this old sport assist in building up the team spirit of a team? For starters, no one with his or her sane minds is into this sport nowadays. People use more effective arms such as guns. There lies the beauty of the sport. Since it is not being widely accomplished, the team has to process in unison and devise cruder styles to hit the target.
A mark will be placed at a distance from the shooter, who will be donning a bow and arrow. In the strictest sense, iron arrows were employed for archery, but for our purpose, we will be sticking with harmless wooden arrows. An instructor will be incessantly present with the squad and he will be acquainting the team to the intricate concepts of archery. He will explain the working of the bow and arrow and will discuss particular tips to make the arrow hit the object.
The sport may look easy, but it takes umteen exploits in the form of concentration and good eyesight. Appropriate safety gears will be applied to the shooter like protective vests and protection for the digits. The instructor will be handling with the rudimentary features only, it is up to the team to hash out and devise different schemes and this is what makes the sport exciting. Thither is no team building without specific discourses and hence this sport is effective in establishing up good communication skills and encouraging the morale of the team. Usually for such events, the whole team is broken into smaller groups and this will result in slight contention between the squads.
A acceptable shooting course must be chosen for the activity. There are specialized courses that have been built exclusively for this purpose. There are also mobile services and such servicing are always wanted as the former tends to be costly. Each team is given certain duration, at which they should try to score the utmost achievable and the team with the biggest score will be of course proclaimed the winner. The whole paradigm deals with team cooperation and if there is nary, you can be confident that the sport just got a lot harder.

Strategies for team building using Archery - By: Kristine Reeves
Are you a squad leader who is expecting to advance the productiveness of your team? If you are looking forward to do so, it is easier to opt for numerous adventure days in the form of an outdoor team building activity. The concept of team building can be learned from the older days itself when team members were taken to a field day and various kinds of games were dealt. With the transition of time, the gaming activities were interchanged by diverse out-of-door activities such as off road driving, archery etc. In this article, we shall be taking a look at archery as an effective team building tool.
Archery has been practiced as a common sporting activity by the modern era corporates. In addition, the sport is nary easy effort, because it requires lots of concentration as well as good sightedness in order to excel. The beginnings of the sport can be observed long back into the history of humans and it is frequently acquired with good feelings even by today's genesis. Some of the world's greatest known archers were born in Ireland and so archery competitions are still prevalent in the area.
Archery as a team building sport is hard. Skillful precaution and caution must be exercised while handling the instruments. Else, it may answer in the bodily harm of the participant and the looker-on. These days the construction of the materials exploited for such team building activities are comparatively innocent to mankind. Still it is best to be safe rather be sorry on a latter date. Do not worry, seasoned as well as conditioned trainers will incessantly be serving you and the team throughout the ordeal and you will feel comfortable dealing them.
If the team is relatively newer to the athletics, fine coaching is given to them for a few minutes before admitting them to play with the instruments. The sport is simpler, you will be given a bow and an arrow and you will have to make the arrow hit the spot placed at a certain distance from the shooter. It sounds amusing, but as the distance of the point is multiplied, the whole paradigm just gets worse. In addition, the challenge is in shooting the arrow accurately over such far lengths. Points are rendered based on the hitting accomplishments and the team members can aid among themselves with the just learned strategies to make the whole paradigm much more challenging.
Due to the nature of the athletics, it can be had anywhere in the country, provided the climate is good enough. There are professional shooting ranges, but it is best to stay to the mobile target practice sessions, as it will be advantageous for the whole team. The archery equipments can be rented for decided duration. It is viable to divide the whole team into smaller groups so that each of the members gets a chance to handle the equipments and for maximising the rivalry. An hour must be apportioned for each group so that they enjoy the sport actively.

Types of Archery Equipment - By: David Urmann
Archery is a great sport to those who enjoy the art and skill of accuracy and precision.
Archery is an art, skill or practice dealing with an arrow and bow for warfare, hunting or as a sport. Contemporary bows used for pushing arrows, are usually made of fiberglass, wood, or carbon composites. Graphites can also be used with a string or a taut cord to connect the bend ends of the bow.
An arrow is commonly made of carbon graphite or aluminum, pointed at one end and a fight-stabilizing feather at the other end. The notch of this butt end is fitted and built into the bowstring. As the taut cord is recoiled, the bow bends for maximum pressure. When the taut is released, the arrow is propelled.
Basic archery equipment consist of arrows and bows. It should be accurately constructed and be made of the finest materials. Otherwise, the user will face difficulties, especially in mounting the arrow. And proper mounting is very crucial to properly shoot the target.
There are compound bows and Penobscot bows (also known as double bows). All bows consist of a string connected to stretch limbs, piling up mechanical energy and imparted by the user as it draws the string.
Bows can be split into two categories. The first one employs a mechanism to pull the string and the other kind pulls the string directly.
Straight drawn bows can be divided based on the method of limb assembly. This would include composite bows, self-bows, and laminated bows. Bows can also be classified by the bow shape of the limbs, especially when unstrung in a bow.
Recurve bows have a tip curving away from the user when the bow is unstrung. There are also cross-selections of the limbs such as with flat bows and longbows.
Flat bows possess a wide limb and have a rectangular cross-section, while longbows are tall bows having narrow limbs with a D-shape in the cross section.
A normal arrow consists of a shaft with an arrowhead connected onto the front end. Shafts are commonly made of fiberglass, solid wood, aluminum alloy, carbon fiber, carbon, or alloy composite.
Fiberglass arrows are brittle. Wooden arrows are sturdier, shaped flat to warping. Nowadays, alloy and carbon arrows are popular as tournament arrows for the Olympics.
If you plan to enter this sport, the experts suggest starting with high quality equipment. Cheap arrows and bows can be unreliable and inaccurate. The poly constructed ones can even injure a person.
There are accessory equipment you can try to aid you in this sport. The handle and grip come in handy in using compound and recurve bows. It is usually made from wood or plastic. Grips and handles are usually chosen to fit the bow and the user.
The riser is the middle part of the bow, holding most of the equipment attached onto the bow such as sight, limbs and button. Several risers have aerodynamic qualities like holes that let the wind pass through the user.
Limbs are the longest pieces of the bow, attached to the riser. Some limbs are layered from different types of materials, making it smooth. Modern limbs can be made from carbon, a lighter and sufficient material.

History of Archery and its Equipment - By: David Urmann
Archery has been practiced since the olden times. It started as a battle method of old, to being an Olympic sport now. There are many types of archery equipment and tips on its usage.
Archery is regarded as a form of ancient technique. It purposely served battles or wars many years ago. Though it is no longer used in this modern age for battles, it has retained its popularity as a sport. It is considered a game of accuracy and precision, and many people are drawn to it.
During the ancient times in India, Egypt, Persia and Greece, fascinating stories about superb archers have left us intrigued and filled with awe about its great involvement in historical battlefields.
Its basic equipments, such as the arrows and bows, were actually developed during the early part of the Mesolithic Period or the latter part of the Paleolithic Period. Before, arrows were made from earlier pines. The materials used, especially for competitions, have changed through the years.
It is important that your archery equipment is appropriately constructed, with materials of the finest quality. If your bows are poorly made, you will have a hard time mounting your arrows. The arrows, on the other hand, should be effortlessly mountable on your bows. Otherwise, precision will be affected.
Commonly used bows for archery includes shortbows, longbows, and recurved bows, along with compound bows and flatbows and crossbows.
Longbows, as the name suggests, are very long. It is equal or longer than the user’s height. Flatbows have wider limbs with a rectangular cross-section.
Compared to others, a shortbow is a bit shorter in length. It weighs lighter and good for short range aims. Years ago, it served hunting purposes.
Crossbows have limbs mounted in horizontal rather than vertical modes. Compound bows are easier to mount.
A conventional archery arrow has a nock, arrowhead, shaft and fletching gears. Shafts are usually made from carbon fibers, aluminum alloys, fiberglass and wood. They should be ideally flexible for easier handling.
Arrows made from carbon alloys are fast becoming popular and widely used. Such arrows are specifically used in Olympic sports.
It is important that your archery equipment doesn’t miss a target due to air pressure. This means that your fletching and arrowhead should be appropriately designed with the finest materials.
The Fletching and arrowhead provide the arrow’s balance. This fletching should comprise of bird or plastic feathers. It is along the arrow’s back end, helping in the arrow’s projectile motion.
Shooting an arrow involves a good physical balance. The eyes, body posture as well as the way that the archer holds the bow should also be precise and accurate. Thus, always use the proper archery equipments.
Here are some samples of archery equipment.
The lumenok is lightweight, adding only 22 grains onto your arrow’s weight. It does little or even no effect onto the flight. The nock is actually self-contained, requiring no glue or magnets as well as switches or various moving parts. Moreover, it accepts Bohning, TCX Nock and Easton Super Uni-nock types.
The Ripcord Arrow Rest Camo has an HD Quiet Draw launcher that arms the cock onto an upward position prior to drawing, while staying as you release your arrow. The “fall-away” design eliminates fletching contact.
The Shuttle T-Lock Broadhead can deliver perfect flights, apart from having expansive cutting” diameters and an ultra-low drag blade design. It keeps blades in place.

Bow Archery Gear: Getting the Right Equipment to Hit the Target - By: Tiraton Athiwat
If you ask a cross-section of people what kind of sport they play or follow, you will be stunned with the given responses. Some will say football, tennis, squash, or athletics, and there will only be a very small percentage that say archery. Archery is a skill that in the past was predominantly used for hunting and warfare, and in modern times has now become a sport. Although archery has fewer aficionados than, say, football, nevertheless its popularity is now beginning to soar.
Bow archery gear is the first thing that you have to think about when you commit to making archery your sport. Bows are made of various flexible but strong materials, such as graphite, fiberglass or wood, with a string or cord that joins the two ends of the bow, and is stretched taut. The arrow is usually made of graphite, and has a pointed and piercing shaft.
There are various types of bows that archers can choose from, and these bows are reliant on limb construction for better precision and targeting. If you take on archery as a serious sport then you need to be acquainted with different types of bows, each tagged for different purposes. If you opt for bows with straight limbs, then the longbow is the ideal sort of gear to choose, with its relatively slender cross section of bough. Another type of bow is the flat bow, which is characterized by a rectangular cross section.
If you prefer to acquire archery gear that will help to reduce the force and resistance, then you can opt for a compound bow. This type of bow is engineered to allow a particular archer to grip with double the weight, given a specified duration of time. To put it in plain words, an archer carrying a 60 pound bow can draw as much as 70% with that of its original weight. There is a lot of archery equipment available at your local specialist stores, which have paved the way for greater price cuts and discounts. Stores such as this are suitable for archers who want to get a good look and feel of the equipment. However, you can also browse the various websites if you want to find a great selection of archery gear.
At present, modern bow strings being used by novices, professionals and enthusiasts tend to be made from state of the art materials, such as Dacron, which provides great strength and accuracy. Apart from bows and arrows, protective gear should not be overlooked. Chest guards are mostly worn by archers to protect their body from an accidental hit. As you release the arrow for a shot, you also need to use a leather tab, or a thumb ring, to protect your fingers.
Archery gear is recognized as well-defined equipment completing the entire paraphernalia required to play the game. Therefore, ensure that your bow is fitted to the bowstring as you pull it back for maximum tension, and the arrow aiming for the target.

The Requirements For The Art Of Archery - By: Tevin Grant
The art of archery has lived in human history since ancient times when hunters sourced for food in the animal fields with weapons in the shape of bows and arrows, till modern times where you now have people enjoying the sport as witnessed by hundreds of individuals who constantly look for archery fields and cheap archery supplies. What had started out as a form of tool to sustain human lives has gradually evolved into a global sport that not only provides a colorful spectacle, but also requires endless hours of discipline and dedication to perfect and perform. Archery has also remained an integral part of the art of hunting, where individuals participate in both the real shooting of animals for food, as well as the gaming aspect of prize hunting.
Archery has a very basic structure, which is essentially made up of the two critical components of the bow and arrow. The bow is the main tool that provides the archer or hunter with the foundation on which to shape his prey and to launch his attacks. It is the platform on which the archer uses to take aim at the target and from which the arrow will be shot. This is also the reason why a lot of effort and hard work is put into the design aspects of a bow. It has resulted in spawning many different types of archery bows that each serve different needs and contain unique advantages, including the longbow, short bow, crossbow and the different types of compound bows such as Diamond compound bows and many more. The advancement in technology in the modern world has also contributed to modern bows that strike a balance in superior quality and smooth usability, as well as price savings which result in equipment such as cheap compound bows.
The arrow is the killing tool with which archers use either to snare their prey, or to shoot at targets designated in archery competitions or hunting tournaments. As with the modern bow, arrows are also made from various materials including, but not limited to, carbon and wood. Depending on the archer's situation and also personal preferences, different types of arrows are used. Factors such as the weight of the arrow, the hunter's target or tournament rules dictate the eventual use of an arrow type. The arrow shaft needs to be built with strong material in order to provide the strength and stability required when the arrow tip hits the target. The arrow tip, in turn, has to provide the cutting edge necessary to plunge deep into the target to secure a perfect hit.
For practitioners of the art of archery, one needs to spend much time on a trained stance that will provide further strong foundations to shooting an arrow. The archer has to ensure that his stance is correct and steady, with the body posture fixed and aligned to his eyes and bow in order to launch the arrow properly. Failure to do so would not only hurt the archer physically, but the archery equipment could be used inappropriately which may harm its longevity. While this is extremely critical for archers who indulge in hunting, it can be often be overlooked by archers who participate more in tournaments which feature competitions based on shooting accuracy and overall archery ability. However, ultimately developing the correct stance and skills required for archery is necessary if one wishes to go far in the sport and to enjoy it at the same time.

A Little Bit of Archery History - By: Linda Barton
The history of archery is an interesting one, by following the evolution of archery we also follow the history of mankind which is so closely linked.
Throughout the world we possess evidence of early archery, even found in areas where at one time it has been assumed that the bow and arrow was not used, such as Australia.
It is thought that archery most likely dates back to around 20,000 BC which is in the Stone Age, but the ancient Egyptians are credited as being the oldest known people to have used the bow and arrow. Archery was adopted by the ancient Egyptians at least 5000 years ago for the purpose of both hunting and warfare.
In 1200 BC the Hittites, an ancient people who lived in what is what is now known as Turkey and northern Syria, used the bow and arrow from fast, light chariots that enabled them to become dreaded opponents in Middle Eastern battles.
Their neighbours called the Assyrians, who emerged in Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria similarly made use of archery extensively. They recast the bow to a recurve shape that was shorter and substantially much more powerful enabling them to be used a lot more easily by a bowman on a horse. They also implemented assorted diverse types of materials to build bows like sinew, horn and wood.
In China archery can be traced back to the Shang dynasty which was between 1766 and 1027 BC when war chariots carried a three man team consisting of a driver, lancer and archer.
During the proceeding Zhou dynasty 1027-256 BC the Chinese aristocrats at court loved watching archery sporting competitions that were acted out along with music and a substantial measure of fanfare.
The Chinese introduced civil archery to Japan around the six century and it had an overriding influence on later techniques and etiquette. One of Japans martial arts now known as kyudo (way of the bow) continues to be taught in Japan in the traditional manner. A bow over 2 metres long and made of bamboo, wood and laminated strips is used for shooting a target set in a roofed over bank of sand.
In the Geco-Roman period, the bow was used more for human adventures or hunting than it was for conflict, Archery is often portrayed on earthenware dating back to that era.
The Romans are not believed to have been terribly skilled archers, in all probability because up till the 5th century the bows they owned were shot by drawing out the string to the chest rather than the facial area which affords the arrow far better precision.
Foes like the Parthians possessed far better expertise; they were accomplished horseback riders who were skilled at shooting rearwards by spinning in the saddle frequently at a full gallop.
The supremacy of the archery equipment and forms applied by the people of the Middle East persisted for centuries. Attila the Hun and his Mongolians, using bows comparable to those of the Parthians and Assyrians, defeated a great deal of Asia and Europe and the Crusaders were driven away by Turkish bowmen.
The bow was an instrument of existence in the days of English and subsequently American settlement and still is in some nations on the African continent.
The popularity of archery has also been communicated in numerous songs and folklore, in all probability the most famous being Robin Hood, what is more archery is also repeatably mentioned in Greek mythology.
The earliest acknowledged coordinated archery contest included 3000 participants and was accommodated at Finsbury, England in 1583.
By the time of the European 30 Year War between 1618 and 1648 due to the introduction of guns, it had become obvious that he bow and arrow as a weapon system belonged to a foregone era.
Since that time, archery is has become extremely popular as a recreational sport.

What are Compound Bows? - By: Rob Daniels
Copyright 2006 Rob Daniels
Undoubtedly one of the biggest advances in the last two decades has been the development of the compound bow. The Compound bow is the latest major development in the search for power and accuracy.
Wilbur Allen, a Missouri bow hunter, is credited with the invention of the compound bow. He holds the patent for the compound bow that he built in 1966. He stopped making recurve bows, took out a license under the Allen patent, and concentrated all his efforts on the compound bow. As compared to the "compound bow’’ invented by Allen, all early bow types of bows could be reasonably approximated by Hooke’s law.
A compound bow is usually a composite recurve bow coupled with pulleys known as eccentric cams. Compound bows are much more technically sophisticated than the recurve, the bow employing wheels or cams at the tip of the limbs. For the compound bow, however, restoring force and draw (string displacement from equilibrium) are far from being proportional to one another. The width of the wheel tracks and design of the compound bows can make a difference. Modern compound bows optimize this relation by a complex system of pulleys which ensure a minimum force at the maximum draw. Consequently, mechanically advantaged compound bows have been developed which allow the archer to deliver high levels of thrust to the arrow. Many bow manufacturers advertise speed ratings for compound bows in excess of 300 feet per second.
The compound bow, on the other hand, has a pulley and cable system that makes holding weight much easier. A compound bow is simply a machine that stores energy, supplied by the shooter, then releases that energy into an arrow.
The compound bow uses very stiff limbs that can operate with greater energy efficiency than less stiff limbs. The high amount of stored energy in a compound bow could cause a wooden arrow to blow up upon release. Because of the power of compound bows, only modern arrows made from materials capable of withstanding the forces of a compound bow should be used when shooting.
Also, a Compound bow is built for a particular draw length, which is slightly difficult to change. When a compound bow is initially purchased, it must be adjusted so that its draw length is correct for the archer. Growing bodies will grow out of compound bows swiftly in the teen years.
A compound bow has a fixed draw length. In other words, you draw it back to a certain point and it stops. A compound bow must be adjusted so that its draw length is correct for the archer. It is recognized that variations in draw length and/or draw weight can affect the percent of let-off on compound bows. Some compound bows incorporate a "spirit level" which tells the archer if his or her bow is tilted.
Today, compound bows are usually preferred for hunting, although recurve bows are not uncommon and usually legal. Recurve bows and longbows are more traditional and usually a lot less expensive than compound bows. The compound bow can do most anything if you point it in the right direction.
Traditional bows are a simple design that has been around for centuries whereas compounds have only been around for about 40 years. It’s main competitor is the modern compound bow that many consider necessary for the continued evolution of bow design and the sport.
From an instruction aspect, the compound bow should not be used; ideally only recurve bows should be used for teaching the basics of archery. A recurve bow is much simpler in function than the compound bow. Traditional bows tend to be substantially longer than compound bows, but they usually weigh a lot less. This means that the arrow of the recurve must be stiffer and therefor heavier than arrow for an equivalent compound bow. Consequently scoring systems are often different for compound shooters, and they rarely compete against recurve bows directly.

Choosing the Right Archery Bow - By: Scott Byers
Choosing the right archery bow is a very personal choice, but a very important one. Many factors come into play, and fortunately there are many different bows available on the market for you to choose from. Choosing the correct bow will greatly increase your comfort while shooting, and will increase your accuracy.
The correct bow for you should have the proper draw weight and draw length. This means that it will draw back far enough (but not too far!) and with the proper amount of tension. Many archery shops will be able to measure you, to determine your ideal draw length. An ideal draw weight should be one that you can comfortably draw back and hold for at least 60 seconds.
Another factor to consider is the axle-to-axle length (ATA) of the bow. This is the distance between the points where the two respective cams are attached. Bows with longer ATA’s are generally considered more forgiving and easier to draw back, but remember that if you are hunting you may not always have a lot of space available!
Whether you choose a single cam, dual cam, or hybrid cam style bow will depend on your style of shooting. Single cams tend to draw smoother, while dual cams are generally faster. Hybrid cams offer a mix of the two, and are relatively new to the market.
These aren’t all of the factors to consider when choosing the right archery bow, but it should be enough to get you started on the right track. The best thing to do it to shop around! Try to shoot several bows by several manufacturers and see which one suits you best. Choosing the correct bow will prove to be a wise decision for many years to come.

How to Get Started in Archery - By: Scott Byers
Archery is a great activity that can help you relieve stress and let you enjoy the outdoors. It can even be a form of exercise! There are millions are archers all over the world, and there’s no reason why you can’t join them and enjoy this fine sport.
But how should you go about getting started in archery? Are you worried that it will be too expensive? Maybe you think that it will be hard to learn? Don’t fret, you can get started in archery for fairly little money, and there are plenty of resources available to help you learn the craft.
You won’t need to dedicate hours everyday to practice if you want to become a proficient archer. In fact, you may be able to consistently hit a target with as little as an hour of practice. However, archery some of the more advanced aspects of the sport can take years to master.
First you need to determine what you would like to do with archery. Do you want to just be a recreational shooter, or do you want to use your archery skills to hunt with? There are even archery competitions, if you wanted to get that involved in the sport.
You should locate an archery shop in your area. Preferably a place that focuses only on archery, as opposed to general sporting goods stores, as they will have a deeper understanding of archery and will better be able to assist you. Talk to the staff and try to learn more about archery, so that you can best determine which areas of the sport you would like to pursue. Many archery shops even have indoor ranges, where you can test different types of archery equipment and get a feel for your own style of shooting.
The amount of archery equipment available may be overwhelming at first, but a more experienced archer or store employee should be able to help you choose between the different types of bows, arrows, and accessories. If you are on a low budget, you should know that many archery shops will allow you to rent equipment for very reasonable prices.
You may want to consider joining a local archery club, if there is one in your area. The more experienced members will gladly teach you about archery, and you can make life-long friends as well.
Always remember to be safety-conscious while you are practicing archery. Your backyard may not be the best place to shoot, especially if you live in a more urban area where a poorly aimed arrow could injure someone. You should be able to locate an archery range within a reasonable distance from your house, where you will be able to safely practice and even meet other archers.
I hope you take action and get into the sport of archery. It can be a very rewarding pastime for you and your whole family for years to come.
