DECORATE YOUR DREAM HOMES WITH MODERN METHODS: AND EXPRESS YOUR ARTISTIC SKILLS:

Decorating With Oil Paintings - By: David W. Sandy

Decorating your home with oil paintings can be a fun way to add a splash of color to a room that demonstrates an individual artistic flare as well as a healthy interest in the arts. Even better, an oil painting will never date (unlike that hideous polka dot rug…) – and in some cases will even become better with age like a fine wine. For this reason, depending on the piece, purchasing artwork can even make a great investment that could fetch you a healthy price online at a later date.

Choosing exactly which oil paintings are right for however can be fairly difficult and the wrong choice can stand out like a sore thumb. The idea here again is to go things that won't date, as well as things that say something about you personally. And of course they have to match with your colour scheme.

Fortunately there are a couple of options you can be sure won't date. Ironically one of the best ways is to pick artwork that's already dated. The reason this works is that people will (hopefully) know that it was dated when you bought it, meaning that you consciously decided on it rather than just failing to keep up with the times. Picking something retro or geek-chic can even be ironic in this sense, and getting an oil painting of a Star Wars character or Nightrider can be great for someone young and a bit alternative. In the same way paintings of anything or anyone iconic, such as Mohamed Ali, Elvis or Marilyn Munroe can give your room a hint of character and a spot of retro chic.

Of course this won't be to everyone's taste, but if you go further back you'll start getting into more classic territory. While it's unlikely that you’ll be unable to afford an original piece of old artwork, getting reproductions of your favourite well-known oil paintings can make a mature and cultured centre piece for your dining room.

If you want something that will draw less attention to itself however then a landscape can make a much more subtle addition to your walls and can also make the room feel more spacious. Though these are more 'standard' you can still choose something that reflects your personality as well as the 'temperature' of the room. If you have lots of mahogany for example you might choose an autumn scene, whereas a brighter more modern room might benefit from a beach with a palm tree.

Another option that demands less attention but won't be to everyone's tastes is to choose something abstract. This can be modern art or just attractive shapes and again the secret is to go for a design that appeals to you personally and fits the tone of the room. Some abstract art can be a little surreal and edgy however which may not be appropriate for more relaxing rooms unless you want to psyche out your guests.

So there are countless options when picking oil paintings and each can offer something different to the decor; it's just picking the right one for you and your room.

Want to enhance the aesthetic appeal of your home? Consult a Pastel Artist - By: Sal Lingo

The pastel artist is one who imprints his innovative skill and years of experience through pastel art. He illustrates attractive paintings on differently colored bases; redefine textures and shapes of pastel strokes. The quality of these paintings is to show the art movement and it is largely depend upon on subjects including dancing and working women, racecourse painting etc.

However, before drawing the pastel paintings artists need to choose the materials. Pastels are available in the form of soft, hard or oil pastel to pastel pencils and crayons along with wide range of eye-catching colors. Once the artists have chosen it, their works become very easy because it does not need to prepare the drawing surface and pastel can be used directly to support it. Additionally, in this sort of paintings no harmful chemicals have been used.

After the preparation of all these things pastel artist starts drawing the paintings by following simple steps i.e. by using different colors artist sketches, small regular strokes and then again sketches in cross direction that ultimately make texture and shading. The next work is scribbling, that is random drawing, it might be overlapping with another shades. Likewise, it gives mobile perception due to which the features have been shown in the paintings seem mobile such as dancing women really seem dancing and running horses really appear running.

Besides, there are several techniques that artists use while drawing paintings with pastels such as layering under which they build layers of colors. However, artists also use liquids including turpentine or mineral spirits as blending tool to generate a wash effect alike to watercolor paintings.

Definitely once painting gets created, it looks beautiful and attracts many eyes in painting exhibition but it needs special protection for its longer life. Therefore, it always better to fix it inside a frame.

Dallas Pastel Artists Help You to Redefine the Aesthetic Beauty of Your Home - By: Sal Lingo

The artists who are more interested in landscape paintings; pastel is a resourceful and thrilling medium for them. The vibrant colors and the facility to change through layering techniques provide artists to express their thought process fullest. They use their finger tips to mix the colors on the paper by blending and overlaying.

Pastel is one of the most everlasting mediums. Actually, the other sorts of paintings use liquid binder that causes fractures, color fading, or get darken with the age but pastel paintings do not use any such kind of liquid, hence it retains its quality and lively radiance for centuries. Nevertheless, Dallas pastel artists shield their works by spraying them with a fixative. The use of fixative is to minimize the abrasion of painting quality. But the drawback of the fixative is it dull and darkens pastel’s colors. Additionally, it is also toxic, hence it need to handle with care. If it has been framed and kept away from the direct sunlight, its life increase proportionally.

Pastel artists make it more interesting and expressive by mixing different types of pastels or by integrating other mediums and tools such as charcoal, toothpicks, knives, and many more. It enhances the beauty of paintings. Besides, they also use hard pastel to create detailed lines in sketching and paintings and use soft pastels if they want to show the large areas or craft bold strokes.

Thorns, Thistles, Sweat, Dust & the Vogels - By: Douglas Auld

All artist painters struggle under the curse Adam and his race suffers for his disobedience. The gift of creativity comes with the wrapping of loneness, insecurity, mockery and failure. Not very often do you hear that an idea popped into someone’s head and voila it was a worldwide success. Yet today we have thousands waiting hours and days in lines all over the country to be an instant phenom with the world’s wealth at their feet. Funny isn’t it how allure of having it all is connected with the curses in the garden. And yet, “there are none so blind as those who cannot see”. Remember that insightful quote. All artists struggle from the great ones to the ones who just do it because something goes off inside that tells them this is something in which I love to participate.

One of the real struggles is the encouragement struggle. Parents today are told to pat little Ethan or Miss Isabella on the head, but not too hard because you’ll go to jail as the state is watching, and tell them how great they are from morning to night. It’s supposed to be good for them. After eighteen plus years of no discipline and arguing with everybody but the relatives that these are the greatest gift to the world that has ever visited the planet. Both enter into society in some form just a bit misguided. From every walk and avenue in our society we are suffering from this delusion. Many are today’s artists and painters who wait at the doorstep of their exhibitions for the accolades to come forth. The struggle is not being patted on the head but having heartfelt truth and reality conveyed in an understandable way that motivates and inspires one to move forward in all their endeavors.

PBS and Independent Lens have given us a glimpse in the heart warming, incredible story of “Harry and Dorothy”. A postal worker and a librarian who worked , and studied and started a lifelong journey of collecting art and ended up building and giving away one of today’s most unusual and valuable collections. One of the most interesting parts of the story was the sincere, patient, and consistent building of lifetime relationships they had with emerging artists of the time. Without knowledge of their future they chose art that they liked in a work progress selection method with a never ending interest in those they had befriended and those that had befriended them. What’s really true about this story is another Biblical truth, “to have friends one must be friendly”. Every artist needs friends. Every artist needs patrons. Every artist needs truthful encouragement. Too often, today many artists practice sewing circle encouragement, where they sit around and kibitz back and forth about their latest wonderful endeavor. Or with our culture and society, the meaningless twits, face entries or see my latest video all of which offers no reality in true encouragement and understanding.

Why are these things important?

First, they are important to the process and creation of great paintings. Paintings that were derived form a concept of expression, struggled over, and executed to such a meaningful scope that the results can not only be seen, but are felt. We can and some do spend endless hours in museums viewing the creations of the past. Where that does have a place, there is nothing more exciting than running directly into a work that takes you over, stops everything around you including time and puts you into a zone that you never before have experienced. It also has a quality of great wine, it gets better each time you spend time looking and seeing and gazing deep within it. To me this is the singular goal of each artist painter in his or her true expression of their craft.

Secondly, we will never be able to match the true creations and wonders that have been put before us from the stars, mountains, plains, seas, a single blade of grass, a flower and so much more, the artist in all his or her humanity seeks to let loose the expression that is bundled up inside of them and allow you the viewer to really see anew and a fresh the true reality of the expression that is before you. These expressions allow us to re-engage with truth and reality instead of the superficial relationship to information and self-absorption. The acquisition of these expressions provided by today’s painters bestows on one a lifetime of pleasure, positive memories and meaningful moments of a “priceless” gift to mankind.

How about you, have you spent time with an artist painter? Have you looked and seen with renewed vision? Have you taken time to see what you would have missed and would have gained? Don’t you think it’s time you did?

The Pet Portrait: A Timeless Gift to Yourself and Loved Ones - By: Jackie Grey

Take a look at your family portrait wall. No doubt there are ancestors and favorite uncles; vacation photos and wedding portraits; baby snapshots and Christmas memories. Still, perhaps you have forgotten someone. Where is the one who bounds out to greet you exuberantly after a long day at the office? Where is the one whose soft purr lulls you to sleep in the cold of winter or the one who perches on your shoulder as you read the morning paper? If you consider your pet a member of the family or know someone who does, then consider having an artist create a painting of your pet or a pet portrait either for yourself or as a priceless gift to another.

Pet portraits are becoming increasingly popular as people begin treating their pets more and more like members of the family. Many artists and websites such as yourartnow.com now specialize solely in creating pet portraits, and converting your photographs into paintings using various mediums to provide you with the best way to immortalize your best friend on canvas. Pet portraits also make fantastic gifts and you can gift such a painting to your spouse, friend, or other family member. They will surely be delighted that you considered their pet worthy of their very own, professionally created portrait!

Furthermore, many pet portrait artists and companies offering art from painting and painting from pictures services are available via the internet. You need only contact the artist via e-mail to set up a commission. Whatever medium you choose--pastels, watercolors, acrylics, oil paints, pencil, or ink—there are artists who are experts in that medium waiting to create a beautiful painting of your pet. Some artists even offer matting and framing services of your completed pet portrait.

If it’s a gift you’re after for the pet lover in your life, many pet portrait artists and painting from art and painting from photo websites recommend gift certificates redeemable for their services. Pet portraits are limited only by your desires and the artist’s imagination. While the more typical commission involves a beloved dog or cat, artists are also happy to take commissions for portraits of birds, horses, rabbits, lizards, and whatever other animal you may share your heart and home with. A pet portrait will ensure those years from now, after photographs have faded and memories have dimmed, a glance at the family portrait wall will be all it takes to return your pet to your side once again.

Get Rid of your Stereotypes about Being an Artist and Release your Creativity - By: Katie Curtin

Stereotypes may be getting in the way of you being as creative as you are capable of being. Start questioning some of the myths and assumptions you've heard all your life about artists and you will be on your way to releasing your creative energies and talents.

These are some beliefs that may be getting in your way.

1. I bet you've heard that to be an artist you have to sacrifice your desires for economic security.” I certainly heard this in my home, and I come from a family of artists who have done pretty well for themselves.

2. The image of an artist’s mental stability is less than pristine. It’s often assumed that the greater sensitivity that many artists display necessarily means that they are doomed to unhappiness.

3. While many of the arts involve a collaborative effort, our predominant cultural stereotype is of the lone artist struggling by him or herself. Often this comes along with the idea of the artist as an outcast or rebel.

4. On the other hand, there is often a mystique about being creative. It's often thought that artists are somehow special, and have abilities that most people can't access. It is often assumed that you have to have artistic genes to be creative. Art becomes a spectator sport with only the cultural elite having the right to participate.

5. Another belief is that if you are a “real” artist, you spend all your time dedicated to your art. If you must take another job, it is low paying work like waiting on tables, work which you will quit when you “make it”

6. Even if you are a full time artist, you may think that you can only excel in one field. We are told that we have to specialize and focus, and it is often assumed we can’t excel at many forms.

If all these stereotypes about art-making aren’t enough to discourage you from doing it, your early experiences with the creative process may. Perhaps a first grade teacher criticized a picture you painted or a song you sang. Or somebody in your family or a friend said you had no talent in the arts.

Or maybe you are just plain scared of the vulnerability that the artistic process opens up. You may conclude it’s too hard or too stressful to be worth it. Performing in front of people can be very scary. We risk criticism and even public humiliation if we fail.

Given these stereotypes and fears, it’s no accident that most of us have difficulties following our creative dreams and urges. We concentrate on bread and butter issues and often wind up trying to consume our way to happiness. However, this is very rarely satisfying. While we may be more affluent, we certainly don’t feel like we are living fulfilled lives. In fact, we become increasingly divorced from our true selves as we give up a vital source of happiness and the gifts our creativity can offer to others.

In order to release the endless fount of creativity and artistic abilities that lie in each of us, we must break the spell these stereotypes hold over us. We do this both by standing back and realizing that our belief systems are simply beliefs, not eternal truths, and by finding techniques to dispel their power.

Are you the one worried about your homes for the absence of liveliness in them? Here is a guide for you to change your ordinary homes to your dream homes in no matter of time. To start with, let me give you some ideas about deciding themes for your house. The theme should be something related to your carrier or the things your having a passion. Don’t go for some latest themes as it will bore you after a while. Even you can create your own themes if you are someone with a good creative sense.

Next thing to decide is the portion of the house you have to change, whether it would be the entire house or a single room like bedroom or something. Once you have decided it, you can search for a color scheme for that particular room. Soft and gentle green and blue colors are great houses with a peace atmosphere. Once the color patters are chosen, it’s time now to design your houses with suitable art works. The principles followed during the color selection of the rooms also apply here. You can choose between different options like modern, fun, traditional or romantic.

How to argue with your builder and win - By: Annie Deakin

1. Spell out what you want

'Research reveals most problems that arise during building projects are caused by a breakdown in communication and a lack of understanding between clients and builders,' says Richard Diment, director general of the Federation of Master Builders (FMB).

2. Get it in writing

'It’s vital to draw up a contract with an agreed timetable that both are happy with [download a generic building contract from Find a Builder. They’re not mind readers, so if your project is not going to plan you must spell it out, explain what you want and discuss the options.' And if you don't understand jargon, ask.

3. Avoid muppets

Disputes with cowboys are more likely to end in tears, so be sure yours are kosher first. For example, clarifying all quotations from the outset may help dispel any unrest down the line – are they a fixed price or just a guide, does it cover installation as well as parts?

4. Cover yourself

Ensure your tradesperson has full insurance and that they are a member of the relevant trade associations before they start work. Check your builder or electrician is VAT registered (most regular-working builders would be).

5. Be a control freak

Keeping a close eye on developments along the way helps will help to offset any problems before they intensify. Communication and body language expert Judi James, author of Bodytalk at Work (Piatkus, £16.99) says, 'You need to learn to think like a project manager. Take responsibility for explaining exactly what you want, and seeing the job through. It doesn’t help to bring in or use a third party as an excuse, "my husband may not like x, y and z. Or I’ll need to check with my wife…" Take control.'

6. Catch flies with honey

You’ll be more likely to reach a positive conclusion to any disputes if you’ve been a good client. Pay on time and thank them for a job well done. 'Keep extras to a minimum, and put any variations to the specified work in writing,' says Richard Diment at the FMB. 'Make any agreed stage payments or reasonable up-front payments promptly. And make sure you’re available in case they need to ask you to make quick decisions.' Think regular tea, biscuits and don't run out of loo paper.

Speaking of which, remember builders need to take extra breaks because they are doing taxing manual labour. So don't get hot and bothered if you seem them taking a time out. The FMB also advises that 'the equipment they work with means they are required to take extra breaks to avoid any long term health effects. For example working with vibrating equipment such as a jackhammer for long periods of time can disrupt blood circulation.'

7. Battling the problem

Acccording to Judi James, 'Don't tackle a tradesperson (or anyone) about an issue whilst standing side by side looking at the area. Look at the site together first, then sit down at a table with a pad and paper and go through the issues.' Maintaining eye contact and sitting at the same level puts you on an equal footing.

8. Take notes

Keep a well-organised file of correspondence and note down verbal agreements you make along the way. James says, 'Make sure you are understood – and that you understand what you is being said. Achieve this by repeating back to your tradesperson what you have just heard. "So as I understand it, you’re saying..." It gives you both the chance to clarify what it is you’re actually trying to say.'

9. Fix it

So you think you’ve made your feelings clear? Now’s the time to give your tradesman a chance to make things right. Refer to your contract, set out the new issues in writing if needs be (keep your letters on file, take relevant photos). Talk about how long it may take to rectify the problem, and what steps you need. How can you meet him half-way? Be realistic about the options, but commit the solutions to paper (again, with a deadline) so you have something concrete to refer to. Then be patient.

10. Talk to the experts

If you have a complaint you’re just not able to solve, get advice. Try the Trading Standards or Consumer Direct. Alternatively try Which?. The Federation of Master Builders can help you find a qualified, registered builder.

A tour of Coco Chanel's apartment - By: Annie Deakin

'An interior is the natural projection of the soul,' were the wise words of fashion icon Coco Chanel. We want to see the film in all its period costume, rags-to-riches glory, but, interior-geeks that we are, Chanel's apartment gets an Oscar from us first.

The screen bio follows the success of Gabrielle Chanel, a mere seamstress who rapidly progressed to Parisian haute couture with a change of name along the way. If you don't know much about the famous Parisian couturier (who transformed the fashion industry making herself her own muse and adapting men's clothing to replace the frump and frills of lace and corsets) we won't spoil the film for you.

In real life the creative magic happened at 31 Rue Cambon in Paris. Paying homage to the iconic designer, Chanel's apartment has been frozen in time since her death in 1971 and preserves her decor as if she had just designed it. Her mix of occidental and oriental references was groundbreaking in her day.

Above the Chanel store on street level are sprawling mirrored and lacquered dressing rooms. Her apartment takes up the second floor and above that is the design workshop. Coco Chanel designed a mirrored spiral staircase to wind up through the house so she could see what was happening on every level, and especially to watch the reactions of editor's at her fashion shows. Big Brother, eat your heart out.

Her imaginative and experimental style is also showcased in the lacquered Chinese screens that she split and used as wallpaper to adorn the walls. One of three rooms in the apartment, it's home to little more than a low slung chair for inspecting hemlines and an richly ornate mirror. This is in the shape of her trademark bottle of Chanel No. 5 perfume and the Place Vendôme - the nearby Ritz where the design icon spent her nights as well home to Chanel's jewellery boutique. You can't get much quirkier than that.

Her dining room is extremely opulent and indulgent. It's home to more oriental screens, gilt mirrors, busts, lions, and chandeliers with the famous '5's' and double 'C's' made from semi-precious stones interwoven into its design.

Be as cool as Coco with a Jet Clear 14 arm chandelier (£950) at Heal's or be more adventurous like the fashion icon herself with Moooi's chandelier (£5,575), at Foundry Light & Design, which is made from paper, card and papier mache. Juliettes Interiors has a variety of big gilt traditional mirrors as well as an elaborately ornate Augustus Rex console and mirror (£2,820).

The piece de resistance in the 20th century icon's home has to be the sumptuously filled living room. The film shows Tautou languidly reclining on the tan and suede sofa, clutching one of the quilted pillows close to her face. Her sofa reportedly mixes her favourite colour and material and such a combination was quite controversial in the world of interiors at the time. She also held interviews from this sofa and was very choosey about who she allowed to join her on it.

As Tautou brings the first leading lady in fashion back to life, the rest of the living room surrounds her with wooden camels, crystal balls, more chandeliers and screens. A packed wooden bookshelf wraps around yet another gilt mirror and lines the far wall.
Steal her style by sinking into a deep Neoz sofa (£6,732) at Made in Design. Layer lots piles of tan leather and suede cushions (£60), from Heal's and you'll want lounge in it all day, like Chanel, above.

Her mix of oriental, modern and traditional decor was a revolution of interior design at the time and is still around today; a testament to her design prowess, eye for detail and timeless chic style.

Decorating Home With Arts - By: Annie Deakin

Art can be found in all kinds of places. Art does also not have to be a picture. Art can come in various shapes, sizes and forms. Whatever art you choose to place on your walls is totally up to you. There are no right and wrong choices for art, and there are no specific trends that need to follow when it comes to choosing art. If you are going to spend lots of money on it, then make sure you really like it.

As you go about choosing art for your home, you should think about a few things you like. If you enjoy looking at calming environments, then you might find a seascape or peaceful landscape is perfect for your bedroom. You can get these in as much or as little detail as you want. Remember you can have a very simple, abstract image which is still art. You can even cover a wall with a piece of your favorite wall paper or fabric and call it art.

Art does not have to just be paintings or pictures. Art can be photographs as well. You can frame a favorite black and white photo of your family to use as artwork. Actual objects can also be used as art. This could be a statuette, masks, plates, fans, interesting beadwork and more.

With art you can think as far outside the box as you like. This means that art can also double as a functional item. You can, for example, mount your TV on the wall to use as art when you are not watching anything. This works because you can connect it to a computer which displays an image for you when on standby. You could also leave a memory card in there with photos on it that are displayed.

Whatever kind of art you like, there are lots of place where you can find it. You can walk around your local mall and choose pieces that are for sale at a home decor shop.

You can also shop online for artwork. There are all kinds of art websites and artist's websites that you can find where you might discover a gem of art that you love. You can also come across auction websites or classified advertising websites where someone might be selling a piece of art that you like.

Art does not have to be expensive and it does not have to fit it directly with your room's theme or color scheme. It can be something completely opposite and different if you want to make a statement. For example in a very modern living room, you can choose an antique portrait or country landscape for a unique contrasting effect.

Candle Making Molds - How to Choose the Perfect Mold For Your Project - By: brian marley

The amount of candle making molds available to you is virtually endless allowing you to make a wide variety of different candles. This article will discuss some of the more basic molds you can use to get started as well as the differences between them.

Just what exactly is a candle mold? It is simply the container that you pour your wax into as it cools. Once the wax has cooled, it will hold the form of the mold. Candle molds are constructed from many different styles, shapes and sizes so you should be able to find one easily that fits your needs.

Aluminum molds are fairly popular with candle makers of today mostly because of their sturdiness and resistance to heat. They are mostly used to pillar and votive candles and when your candle is completed, it should have a smooth finish without visible seams in the candle. Aluminum molds are relatively inexpensive in comparison to other molds. One thing to be aware of though is that aluminum molds are not very flexible, so there are very small selections when choosing the shape and texture of your candle.

Opposite from aluminum molds, rubber molds are very flexible. Latex, silicone and polyurethane fall under this category as well. Though they are flexible, they do not stretch well. A downside of rubber molds is that they will usually release a powerful odor that often times is passed along to your candle. Popular shaped candles that employ rubber molds are pillar and taper candles.

Latex molds are falling out of popularity primarily due to the advances of the different types of rubber molds. It is very easy to make your own molds at home by simply using liquid latex and painting onto a structure. This process will require a large amount of latex but you find that you have many more options to create your own unique molds.

The least expensive option is a plastic mold but they are not always going to be your best choice Plastic candle molds are the least expensive but they're not always the best. They have a tendency to not last as long as the other options as well as being fairly fragile. However, they are very easy to wash and are a good mold for the novice candle maker. Use the mold to get your feet wet and then when you feel comfortable you can begin investing in the other types of molds to achieve a variety of results.

5 Stereotypes about Artists - By: Autumn Rose
When somebody tells you they are an artist, there are a lot of things that can come to mind. Is he gay? How broke is this dude? Does she always dress in black? Even though some, well maybe a lot of artists are kind of eccentric there are too many stereotypes out there that are just not applicable to modern day artists. Here is a list of 5 Stereotypes about artists that I’ve challenged throughout the years.

1. All artists are a little odd. *While there are some artists who are outwardly eccentric like Salvador Dali the majority of modern day artists are everyday people with a 9-5 job. Plenty of artist enjoy mainstream entertainment and watch tv channels that we all do. Who is to say someone else is strange anyways, aren’t we all odd in our own ways?
2. Artists seem to be either gay or bi-sexual. *Just because a lot of the homosexuals end up in art school doesn’t mean being an artist means you might be gay. I think this stereotype is the hardest to overcome for the artists themselves and for their surrounding community. I think artists are generally open in spirit and personality. They are not afraid to show their true feelings. Maybe there are a lot of business executives and construction workers who are gay too, they just don’t self express themselves like an artist can. Either way, this is the most difficult for me to understand as well. I don’t think sexual orientation has anything to do with one’s profession.
3. Artists are overly sensitive. *Going hand in hand with the previous bullet point, artists are masters of their own self expression. I’ll admit sometimes they seem a little too sad like they are a victim of various forces and can never catch a break. However, what about those pretentious art directors who will only work with fortune 500 companies. Now these guys don’t have an ounce of sensitivity in their blood. They’ll shoot down an idea within a minute of presentation. They’ll even snatch that marketing plan right off your easel if they had to.
4. Many artists are starving artists. *That is to say what? All artists have some kind of eating disorder? Artists crave attention? All artists are broke? For anyone who thinks this, just wait until 2012. The economy will be back up and then you can research how much an art director at an agency makes per year. Some executives in the field even make doctor wages. Just because most of them paid over $40,000 a year for tuition, that doesn’t mean in two years they can’t double that. You’d be surprised how rich an artist can get. As for the eating disorder thing, lots of artists are vegans and lots of artists are skinnier than a toothpick. I just think it’s a fad. It’s not at every art school.
5. Most artists take part in recreational drug use and abuse. *This is probably my favorite one to debate. Of course there are the old masters Van Gogh with his Absinthe and Warhol with his LSD. But back in the day, who wasn’t trying to alter their conscience, there was no internet back then! Artist nowadays have a lot more career options, support, and tools to really be successful in this ever-changing universe. A lot of artists I know work over 50 hours a week and bring their work home with them as well. They love their job so much, they’re constantly high off life.

Ultimately, I think artists get a bad rap from all angles and I don’t really think it will stop. Just think about the artists you know. That doesn’t mean a painter or photographer, think outside the box a little. A chef is a culinary artist. A writer is an artist of words. Everyone is an artist in their own way and false stereotypes will never break the bond between visual artists. Remember, we are all a little strange in our own ways.

What Comprises An Authentic Banksy Canvas Art Form - By: Luke Wildman

The modern art world has taken a new twist, thanks to Banksy canvas art. The eclectic style of this artist has created waves in the art circuit and all his paintings convey a message.

Design style
One of the first things you notice about any typical Banksy canvas art is that the designs are extremely bold. Not just in terms of colour but also the underlying concept and message. Banksy believes his paintings should do the talking when it comes to delivering a powerful social message. This is why he uses common, everyday objects as his canvas and draws on societal norms as his subjects. Whether it is about racism, societal norms, poverty or censorship of art, his paintings make a person think.

Satirical paintings
Another thing you notice when you chance upon a Banksy canvas art is that the message hidden within the painting is very sarcastic, almost bordering on satire. Banksy’s paintings deal with common social problems such as racism, poverty, division of society into classes and many other problems lurking. The curb on art by society’s upholders of tradition is apparent as he depicts a picture of an artist painting with a leash of a dollar sign. This shows the extent to which art is often censored because of money power.

Graffiti category
Banksy canvas art is officially touted as being within the graffiti category, although his ardent fans will certainly disagree! Banksy has a steady set of supporters and admirers within London society who love admiring his work. Unlike other artists, who cater to the higher echelons of society, Banksy caters to the common person, using street walls as his canvas and talking about the problems of the common person.

What no museum can do
London has some of the most respected and admired art museums in the world. However, when it comes to Banksy canvas art none can achieve what his paintings have. He uses the common problems as his subjects and is able to reach out to ordinary people. His paintings force everyone to think and question the norms of society. Often, there is an unmistakable poignant humour in his paintings, which is hard to miss.

Bright colours
Most of the Banksy canvas art forms use bright and vivid colours. Colours like bright yellow, green, red and blue are used often. These help brighten up the street walls, which are often a canvas for Banksy’s work. These brilliant works of art are perfect in every way in terms of the human form, artistic sensibilities and yet have a bold satirical tone to them, which is hard to miss. Banksy’s works deal with modern society problems in London and makes onlookers wait for what the next masterpiece will be like. Most Londoners have never seen Banksy in action because he is always so elusive. However, some lucky passer-by may chance to see him in action, whilst painting one of his subjects on the wall! All of Banksy’s works are elusive and very distinct in terms of their appeal.

African American Paintings - By: Benicio Brown

African American paintings are in high demand, we know that for sure. The mixture of the two cultures combined into one form of art is truly beautiful, but what are the artists really trying to portray? Moving from somewhere you know as your home and landing in a foreign country is hard enough. Learning the language is achievable, and art is similar to that of a language. You need to learn to adapt quickly to a new way of life and remember that it is not just a language, but a culture as well.

Artists realized that once they moved they would have to adapt their current practices to enable others to understand exactly what they were doing. It even came to the point where the artists understood that they might even have to mask their current beliefs and take up others to ensure that their art was popular and understood. Of course, African American paintings have a great history, and it is one that needs to be understood if you really want to understand African American art.

The hardest time for an African American was certainly during the times of excessive slavery. If you were lucky enough to be a good artist, then you might be assigned to families. To begin with you might be making quilts and cushions or similar items, but the future would offer so much more. Eventually the African American artists became known as simply painters for white families. Whilst this was downgrading and the artists were not ever treated correctly, what they didn’t realize is this could be their ticket to freedom; their art was worth more to families than the artists themselves.

As slavery became less and less popular in certain regions and people became to stand against it, artists were able to make their move. The quality of African American paintings at the time was highly valued by many families. So much to a point where some artists were able to break free by offering families a collection of their best work, and the families let them go!

Of course, the next step for artists was getting through the civil war. Whilst African American artists were become more and more recognized, black culture in the USA was still separated from white culture. The white man dominated the streets and constantly downgraded other cultures. Of course, artists used this to their advantages and portrayed their feelings or lives through their artwork. Of course, many people didn’t understand where the idea originated from their work, or what it meant. That didn’t matter to the artists producing the African American paintings though as it was this emotion that allowed them to produce such quality work!

In fact, the African American art community became so popular that their work was displayed through the country. Museums and studios proudly displayed their work. It was only slightly after this point that their work was considered as similar to that of European artists.

Of course, the reasons African American paintings were so popular was because they were extremely unique. If they were suddenly being compared to work in Europe, then they didn’t really stand much hope of being the biggest and the best. The artists need to come up with something that would distinguish them from artists across Europe and for that matter, the rest of the globe!

The Harlem Renaissance definitely managed to achieve this. It allowed African American art to be once again distinguished as popular and unique. Over the years the artists in the community build on each others life’s experiences and the past of their ancestors and the future of their families. Of course, the new found inspiration for the art meant that African American paintings became more and more in demand. The same supply and higher demand meant that they had to increase the prices of their work and were soon out pricing European artists!

Of course, even to this date African American artists still look back on their ancestors work or lives for inspiration. This allows them to portray emotion and doesn’t let anyone forgot what happened and what shouldn’t happen once more. Emotion is the best form of inspiration and this is why African American paintings are such high quality!

In addition to the development of Make-up Artist Television, or MUATV.com, the first online television broadcast exclusively for professional make-up artists, hairstylists, and make-up effects artists-a broadcast that has quickly become a daily viewing must for make-up and hair artists the world over-Joe Blasco has devised the first truly professional online make-up artist and hairstylist training program at www.themakeupspace.com. Now, students of the craft can experience the highest quality make-up education in the comfort of their own homes, without incurring the expense of travel and lodging.
This online professional make-up and hair training process really shows and tells, providing the attendee with a great "edge" over others taught through less passionate and sophisticated means. Today, students at all make-up schools can actually see and learn what has made the Joe Blasco Schools the most sought after and respected in the industry. For a fraction of the cost of attending other training programs, students-online-can now actually experience and compare the Joe Blasco method to training methods utilized in other programs. No other school or training entity provides the prospective student with this unprecedented ability to see into its nucleus. In other words, prospective Joe Blasco students can sample their education before enrolling in the hands-on program, or they can custom-combine online and hands-on training in order to further enhance their learning experience, knowledge, and professional capabilities. These innovations and make-up industry firsts all spring from the entrepreneurial mind and spirit of Joe Blasco.

Current professional make-up training methods have been derived by the methods developed and created by Joe Blasco from the mid-1960s through the late 1970s. These methods, which continue to be emulated by and incorporated into the curricula of all professional make-up schools worldwide, have now become obsolete in the fast-paced world of today's technologies. In response, Joe Blasco has created a new state-of-the-art teaching method for students of professional make-up, thereby further advancing the ways in which professional make-up artistry is taught! By advancing the methods of teaching professional make-up application, they now meet the current criteria of today's artistic and continuously changing technical media requirements.
Just as Joe Blasco stood at the forefront of professional make-up artist training, he once again stands poised to forge new ground with the introduction of the world's first professional online make-up artist training program, which is now available to artists at www.themakeupspace.com. It is his ability to constantly evolve and recognize the demands of new technologies that has allowed him to once again break new ground through his incorporation of the Internet into his teaching process.
In realizing the importance of creating a true interactive experience, however, Mr. Blasco has decided not to rely entirely on the telecommuting power of the Internet. Instead, the Internet's expansive reach has been incorporated into a more complete learning process. Students may receive hands-on training from experienced teachers at the Joe Blasco School facilities in order to supplement the initial online instruction.
Students are able to choose the online seminars conducted by Joe Blasco and other select make-up artists and may review them as often as necessary. After purchasing the required materials and practicing on their own in order to become confident in their abilities, they may then schedule a time to visit the school, where they can continue to practice and improve under instructor supervision. Once the instructor feels that students have achieved a high level of skill, the instructor will then recommend that they schedule a proficiency exam. Program certification confirms the student's qualifications to work as a professional make-up artist in the fields of motion pictures and television.
In addition, students may purchase all materials at www.megamakeupstore.com, an exceptional online professional make-up supply site that serves artists worldwide. This unique collaboration with the best and largest cosmetics supply houses in the U.S.A. and around the globe includes companies such as Naimie's Beauty Center, Nigel's Beauty Emporium, Frends Beauty Supply, and others still to come.
Joe Blasco has had the foresight to bring self-taught learning and formal classroom instruction together into a complete make-up education program. Students of professional make-up artistry now benefit in all possible respects-not to mention that students enrolled at any Joe Blasco School can take the entire online training program absolutely free of charge!

The Art Of Writing Classified Adverts - By: Ashley J. Johnson

Writing classified ads is an art that can be learned and developed. The perfect classified ad can be written in a relatively short period of time. Depending on the nature of your business, a well written classified can bring in business and subsequent sales of $10,000 to $25,000 annually, or more!

A classified ad is most assuredly a powerful tool. You must first become aware of the effective use of a classified ad as a business builder. Understand exactly what can be expected from a classified ad and what cannot.

Free Information as a Classified Ad

Instead of wondering and experimenting with your advertising budget, concentrate on offering free information in your classified ad. Realize from the beginning that your classified ad should serve only one purpose: targeting a specific audience. From your classified ad, you want inquiries: letters, notes, and postcards that request: "Send more information." When you start receiving responses from your classified ad, quickly reply with a professionally prepared sales pitch. The standard material will consist of a sales letter or flyer, and a return addressed envelope for convenience in ordering.

Be straightforward with your Free Classifieds

Unlike display advertising, which must attract, and grab the reader; your classified ad is placed under specific heading according to subject. Classified ad readers interested in your subject will scan the heading in much the same way they would scan a phone directory. They are looking for something. Do you have what they are looking for? Tell them with a well-written classified ad!

Do not use deception with you classified ad. What you want are quality names of prospective buyers, not a large quantity of names. It would be easy to promise the moon in your classified ad. But if it can't deliver, you will not only lose the initial sale, you will have alienated your prospect.

Place your classified ad under the most appropriate heading. If you were offering something appealing to sportsmen, the classified ad heading would be SPORTING GOODS. If you're aiming at a specific type of sportsman such as hunters, fisherman, or bowlers, you might find such a classified ad heading. In some cases you can have the publication create a new classified ad heading for you for an additional charge. It could be worth the extra cost.

Be Stringent With Wording

The best way to write your ad is to disregard size and cost at first. Start writing your classified ad by writing everything on paper. Stress the need for what you have to offer, what it will do for readers, how they will benefit from your product. When you have finished writing, you might have a long paragraph or a full page. Now is the time to think of size and cost. You will pay by the word for a classified ad, so you will have to be selective in your choice of words in the final classified ad.

How One Woman Expresses Metaphysical Ideas Through Art - By: kimberlywickham.com

The Giclee prints, cards, and prints of children's book author Kimberly Wickham, the creative mind behind the Angels and Horses children's book series, are not your typical young adult fare. Rather than the glossy photographs of too-skinny, makeup-wearing girls portrayed on the covers of the latest brand offerings from Alloy Entertainment (of the "A List" and "Gossip Girl" fame), Wickham's work seems to be in touch with what it means to be a child perched on the cusp of adolescence: at once whimsical and imaginative, full of fantasy and heart. In "The Comforting Horse," for example, a horse sits upright in order to hug a distressed little girl in her hooves, while "Chair Collapsing into its Wave Potential" sees the quantum potential for magic in the most seemingly mundane of objects. Like her children's books, Wickham's art seeks to capture the wonder of childhood.

Wickham's books in the Angels and Horses series - among them Angels and Horses, Summer of Magic Horses, and Angels, Horses and Other Worldly Lessons - all explore the adventures of a young girl called Tina, who learns to overcome real-world challenges like a parent's illness and schoolyard bullies with "other worldly" solutions as she learns more about the powers of the "law of attraction." This law, made famous by the self-help phenomenon "The Secret," suggests that positive thinking can actually change the world at a quantum level, and that philosophical and creative thought - which Tina learns to exercise with the help of her guardian angel Marguerite and beloved pet horse Dancer - can be a step towards improving one's own life.

Wickham's art reflects this notion, with mystical paintings and drawings like those depicting a series of riders crossing the "Cosmic Lattice" into the unknown. Wickham's art has always had a mystical bent - she created a stained glass panorama for the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Margaretville, NY, at the young age of 20 - and through twenty years of experience and four degrees, including those in Art and Art History, along with Teaching and Humanities, has developed her craft into an inspiration for children, parents, and educators alike.

How One Children's Book Writer Is Inspiring Children in Writing and in Art - By: kimberlywickham.com

Quantum physics for kids doesn't exactly sound like the latest trend. But children's book author Kimberly Wickham - the artist and writer behind the new Angels and Horses children's book series sensation - is transforming the way parents, educators, and children themselves think about contemporary children's literature, with a series of books and artwork that explores the whimsical, fanciful, and even mystical possibilities available to creative children today.

The Angels and Horses series, which is comprised of Angels and Horses, Summer of Magic Horses, and the upcoming Angels, Horses and Other Worldly Lessons, manages to combine the warmth and humor of a children's horse story with hints of magic and an inspiring focus on positive and creative thought. Tina, our young heroine, begins the series as an insecure middle-schooler dealing with more challenges than she thinks she can handle, among them the illness of her mother and the taunts of bullies in the schoolyard. Her pet horse Dancer, her closest friend, gives her some solace, but Tina is still troubled. But when her guardian angel Marguerite arrives on the scene, Tina is introduced to the full metaphysical possibilities of the universe beyond the Cosmic Lattice.

But this isn't the magic of "Harry Potter." Rather, the ideas that underpin the Angels and Horses series are based firmly in the real-world concept of the "Law of Attraction," popularized in self-help phenomenon "The Secret" - that at a quantum level, the universe is filled with far more wonder than meets the eye, and that positive thinking can genuinely affect the way the world works. Thus, the lessons that Tina learns can be practiced by children themselves - an exciting treat for children heartbroken that they never received Hogwarts entry letters on their eleventh birthday.

Wickham's art, which ties into the themes of her book - from the "Cosmic Lattice" to her beloved horses, is available for purchase separately from her illustrations - in Giclee Print, Print, or Card format. The whimsical drawings and paintings bring Wickham's ideas to life, and are perfect decorations for a child's bedroom or classroom, or as greeting or Christmas cards.

Wickham's writing and art is available through Trafford Publishing and at http://www.kimberlywickham.com

Being shot in several locations including France and Germany, the film has been set in France occupied by German and tells us a story about two plots for assassinating Nazi political leadership. As far as the title of the film is concerned, it has been inspired by a film by Enzo Castellaris, an Italian director and as for its wrong spelling; the mis-spelling is an artistic flourish. But within the film, the words are misspelled on Aldos rifle also, depicting that he is not completely literate.

Shosanna Dreyfus, a young teenage Jewish refugee, witnesses her familys slaughter by Colonel Hans Landa. After several years, she plots a revenge when a war hero of Germans, Frederick Zoller, starts taking interest in her and makes arrangements for movie premier at the theater run by her. Investment in Art - By: Peter jhons

We are quite familiar with the term 'investment'. We are also aware about different investment catalogs. But apart from USA, there are only a few nations where investment in art is a common practice. Time has really changed. In recent context, we have seen many an auction even where non Americans have shown immense interest in antique art pieces. Undoubtedly, it is perfect time for online platform like 'artpricechart' which will definitely leverage this trend and the whole world will recognize latent potential of art pieces. We are getting absolute signal which depicts that Investment trend in art will exponentially prevail.

It is quite soothing to hear the term like 'creative industries' for all art lovers and for the people who are interested in buying or selling art. As an artist, normally we think that our future will solely depend upon commercial galleries. Though, such practices have become inexact as well as self limiting. Well! Reasons are so obvious that such galleries can not be accessible by everyone. On the hand, we have mentioned the term 'self limiting' because such galleries can not be residence of all those artists who want to exhibit their art works. So, we have seen a new trend 'art online'.

Galleries on World Wide Web are also known as 'neo-galleries'. Irrespective geographical and political domain every art lover can find here specific place for every art work like Decorated Pottery, Photography, Sculpture, Drawing and so on. It is a burning question for every aspirant artist "how do i get into a gallery?" Though, exponentially prevailing cyber space may be an answer but opportunity may be anywhere so keep your options open all the time. Even in that context, 'artpricechart' be proved as the best helping hand. Here you will get information about events undoubtedly 'a door of opportunity'.

In experts' opinion, heterogeneity of artwork and infrequency of trading are two biggest hurdle of art commerce. But World Wide Web has realized this concern and offered few fabulous online platforms where one can experience a whole new world of art commerce. There is one more aspect of art commerce which draws a delicate line between bourgeois world of arts and popular world of electronic media (TV, Radio, etc.). World Wide Web has almost eliminated this line. Probably, this is the greatest achievement of cyber space. An Article by 'James E. Pesando' states-

'In a well-functioning capital market, the risk-adjusted rates of return on all assets will be forced to equality. The equilibrium return on art, net of insurance and storage costs and any flow of consumption services, will equal the equilibrium return on competing assets with identical risk. If this is not the case, then art is an investment which compares 'favorably or unfavorably' with traditional financial assets.'

Probably, these are amongst the most precise words which explores aesthetic limitation of art.

In 1881, Munch enrolled at the Royal School of Art and Design of Kristiania, founded by his forefather Jacob Munch. His first teacher was Christian Krohg. The first Paintings of Edvard were portraits where he showed his natural skills for painting.

After this period in Royal School, Edvard traveled to Paris and then to Berlin where sold several Paintings and had numerous exhibitions. His major works are Evening on Karl Johan (1892), The Scream (1893), Ashes (1894), Vampire (1893-94), Ashes (1894), Madonna (1894-1895), Puberty (1895), Self-Portrait with Burning Cigarette (1895), Death in the Sickroom (1895), Lady From the Sea (1896), The Dance of Life (1899-1900), The Dead Mother (1899-1900), The Sick Child (1907), Death of Marat I (1907) and Self Portrait: Between Clock and Bed (1940-1942).

But then, do you have any idea how it all started? How and when did people start the custom of sending cards on Christmas Day? The following paragraphs – evidenced from history, numerical facts and anecdotes – provide an insight into some interesting facts about these Christmas cards.

Ancient China was probably one of the first countries to have started the custom of sending messages of goodwill to near and dear ones. As per recorded evidence, Germans were producing cards as early as the 15th century. However, the origin of Christmas cards is attributed to the young boys of England. Centuries ago, they used to make cards for their parents on Christmas Day.

In the year 1843, Sir Henry Cole commissioned the first commercial Christmas cards in London. A simple, "A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to You" was found on the inside of each card, thereby indicating the onset of Christmas greetings in a new, innovative fashion at that time.

In the USA, the first commercial Christmas cards were produced by Louis Prang. In fact, he is regarded as the creator of the greeting card industry in the United States. As these cards grew in popularity, they became the preferred means of sending Christmas invitations to friends and family.

The White House, under the presidency of Eisenhower, issued its first official Christmas card in the year 1953. In the year 2005, the White House sent more than 1.4 million official Christmas wishes through greeting cards.

How to Unclog Artist Block - By: Valery Satterwhite
It's a devastating thing for an artist to feel they've lost their inspiration, to encounter a creative block. But suffering from artist's block doesn't mean you've lost your artistic ability. Artist block can be overcome.

Invariably it will happen. It's something that happens to all creative beings and all beings are born to create something. Within each purpose beats a heart that longs to be, do and have in this world. When a creative person suffers from an artist block or has lost their inspiration to create it is a devastating experience. Life energy is seemingly drained and the person is left empty in desperation.

Then fear takes over. Fear that there is no longer purpose in life, no reason for being, no hope for the future. Someone who suffers from artist block will Find Excuses And Reasons (F.E.A.R.) why she cannot possibly create that day or 'should' give up the dream to pursue some other, inauthentic, vocation. Or, she will despair day in and day out over the inability to create and the lack of inspiration. In this despair she will further drive that which she longs for even further from her reach. It can become an agonizing and soulfully vicious cycle of existence.

"Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened." - Winston Churchill

If your heart literally aches from artist block then know this: your truth is that you are an artist. That's why your heart aches. You are not expressing who you are at your deepest core. You were born to fully express your artistic potential. Anything short of this achievement will leave you feeling a little less whole, striving to reach for an expansion of your artful communication to the world.

In that moment, the moment you are awash in this truth you have a choice. You can choose to ignore this truth, give up in fear and go find some other life to live; creating someone else's truth. You can beat yourself up over your lack of inspiration further driving you away from what your heart is calling you to become. Or you can take a deep breath, center yourself in the truth of who you are, and ask your inner being what it wants to express. Then pick up your script, your paint brush, your instrument, your pencil, seat yourself at your computer - place yourself in a position where you can begin whatever it is you wish to create.

"To know how to choose a path with heart is to learn how to follow intuitive felling." - Jean Shinoda Bolen

If inspiration doesn't present itself immediately that's ok. Every bit of inspiration that you long for is already within you. All you have to do is allow it to flow. The more you resist your block the more power and energy you add to this block. Allow yourself to be blocked for the moment and begin anyway. Try a new approach to the character you're portraying, put some paint on the canvas, write the next line in your book even if the line is "I have no idea what comes next" and then take another step until the expression flows. Allow those first few forward movements to be real stinkers if that's what needs to get out of the way so your creativity can flow again. Let go of any judgment that what you create has to be good. Sometimes it is the woefully errant advancement that will lead to the opening of your creative resources once again.

Let go. Know that blocks are inevitable and that you have all the power you need within you to fully express your artistic potential. Honor your truth and your will be and act in the direction of your dream. You will live in alignment with your purpose in life following your own inner wisdom, the voice of your intuition, your higher being, your muse.

"There is neither painting, nor sculpture, nor music, nor poetry. The only truth is creation." - Umberto Boccioni

The Beauty Of Oil Paintings - By: Bei Kashi
Possessing celebrated oil paintings by a renowned painter like Van Gogh, Leonardo da Vinci, or Thomas Cole is an artist¡¯s dream. Not only artists, most people with esthetic leanings prefer beautiful oil paintings to embellish their collection.

Visiting an online oil painting gallery is one option that such individuals could try out in order to satiate their esthetic wants. In fact, nowadays replicas of famous paintings by distinguished painters are sold on many websites online.

Such paintings could serve out to be an ideal item for display. Also, one could acquire one of these and hand them over to one¡¯s friend or spouse as a gift for a birthday or anniversary.

Oil paintings spread over various styles, themes, and categories. Visiting a good online gallery will provide an elaborate view of the different styles and patterns of paintings that one could select from.

Some such styles of artwork that one can notice are abstract styles, American Realism, Fauvism, Classical artwork, Impressionistic paintings, etc. There are thousands of other styles that might stimulate an individual¡¯s fancy.

For those who are art enthusiasts, possessing a reproduction of a celebrated masterpiece can often appear to be a very fascinating option. Oil colors simply enhance the drawings and add a touch of realism to the canvas that generally appears paler in water colors or other such modes.

Therefore, one must definitely look out for opportunities where one could obtain such a distinguished piece of artwork.

Besides, many art sites offer quality hand drawn oil painted drawings that appear as realistic as the original masterpieces. Upon requests, one could also get hold of a self portrait painted in bright oil colors.

This could be done by providing the concerned person with a prominent photo of oneself. The rest is accomplished with the aid of the artistic abilities of the artist as well as the colors.

Also, such sites provide a variety of choices to a customer as to which artist¡¯s paintings do they wish to obtain. Many people opt for imitations of notable pieces like ¡®The Starry Night¡¯ by Vincent Van Gogh and Leonardo da Vinci¡¯s ¡®The Last Supper.¡¯

However, it is up to a customer when it comes to pick out his favorites. Some sites provide a list of prominent artists and their exclusive creations.

For instance, if one wishes to possess paintings by Claude Monet, he/she could visit a site that provides a glimpse of all the famous paintings by the artist. Post that, he can decide which painting he wants an imitation of.

Animal artworks, seascapes, landscapes, Christian artwork, biblical drawings are yet some other appreciated categories when it comes to selection of paintings from art sites. These paintings can also be acquired as a token or memento of esthetic brilliance by some of the eminent painters of the yesteryears.

Besides, well-drawn artworks adds a certain degree of refinement in the decoration of any place, residency, or corporate. To select and obtain such polished oil paintings, one must often check online art galleries.

JustJess Helps You Kick start your NFL season with a good Bottle of Ducort Blanc - By: skatonrathan
Everyone likes to celebrate their football game with friends and of course a good bottle of wine in hand. Sports gatherings have always been synonymous with alcoholic beverage which is why it wasn’t uncommon to have many references that combine these two element, like when Ben Folds Five released the song “Sports and Wine”

Take a queue from an episode of “JustJess” in the Wine Channel, where Jess Altieri of WineHarvest talked about the importance of the Wine industry as a primary beverage supply for many Athletic related gatherings and events. Sports and Wine do go hand in hand. Your favorite NFL team is no different from a bottle of your favorite vintage: each has their own aggressive or sublime taste, characteristic flavor and color which makes every bottle distinguishable from other blends.

If you had to pick one kind of wine to describe your favorite NFL or Football team which would you brand as their official Sports wine? I am a big Colts fan and I would have to say that If I had to pick one blend of wine that embodies the athleticism and precision of this team it would have to be a finely aged Beauregard Ducort Blanc.

Crisp, with a sharp flavor that goes right to your palette; this is why the Ducort Blanc is a favorite among wine connoisseurs and individuals who like that extra kick in their glass of white. This is exactly how I would quote the offensive strategy that Colts bring down to NFL rivalries if I had to describe them using wine speak. The Ducort Blanc is not for the feint hearted, you need experience and expertise in wine tasting to fully appreciate its strong flavor and sharp bouquet, much like how the Colts would appeal to hardcore football fans.

How it applies to Winning Relationships - By: jitu
1000% Responsibility -- what does that mean? It means that we choose and decide to take absolute responsibility for our lives. How does 1000% responsibility apply to relationships? How can we take absolute responsibility in relationships? We can take absolute responsibility in relationships by paying such close attention to our interactions with others that we have the awareness to "head off" trouble before it happens.

It means that we pay attention to the typical behavior of other people, rather than pretending to be caught unawares when they behave the way they always do. It means that as soon as there is even a remote possibility of a misunderstanding in the future, we step up and clarify in advance of anything happening -- rather than simply letting the thing unfold negatively. It means paying attention to the character of those we interact with, rather than pretending surprise when they reveal their character in an unpleasant way.

Example: If you have a relationship with someone who, over time, reveals different ways that they are dishonest (such as cheating on taxes, or deceiving others), don’t expect that you will be exempt from this treatment by them.

1000% responsibility in this case could be deciding that one of your criteria for relationships is choosing honest people in your life.

1000% responsibility could also mean deciding that those who are not honest will only be acquaintances, not friends.

1000% responsibility might also mean you will state your discomfort at hearing others describe their dishonest acts.

1000% responsibility means listening to your intuition or inner guidance.

1000% responsibility means SEEING what you are seeing and HEARING what you are hearing, rather than crating justifications for the behaviors of others.

1000% responsibility means heading problems off at the first inkling by clarifying, "Am I correct in guessing that you might be thinking X about Y?"

1000% responsibility means looking ahead to anything that could potentially become a problem and communicating about it in advance.

1000% responsibility means looking back to see anything that has caused a problem in the past and working with the person who became problematic to see if any solutions can be had to avoid problems in the future.

1000% responsibility means avoidance is not an option. Instead, handle issues at the first possibility .

1000% responsibility means not talking about a problem with anyone other than the person you have the "problem" with. If you’re talking to other people, that is gossip...and has no possibility to solve the problem. You’re talking to the wrong person.

1000% responsibility means doing things before they need to be done.

1000% responsibility means thinking and planning ahead so problems don’t arise.

1000% responsibility means staying one step ahead at all times.

1000% responsibility means taking the long range view and the “bird’s eye” view habitually.

1000% responsibility is a concept that can completely transform your life. It is simple, but not always easy. The results are totally gratifying though. It will absolutely put an end to any "victim" patterns you might be experiencing in your life.

What to look for when buying Artwork - By: Arun Dev 1
Few things in the United States are as beautiful and breathtaking as the New England coastline, and there is perhaps no better way to portray this shoreline or the oceans dynamic splendor than with an oil painting. In the best seascape art you can feel the breeze, hear the seagulls and see the depth of the water; but it takes an extremely talented and experienced artist to recreate this sense on canvas. Throughout history artists like English J. M. W. Turner and American born Winslow Homer have captured the magical essence of our earth’s oceans and tributaries with their unique abilities, brush stroke techniques and use of color. For most art lovers, the affordability of original artwork by classic artists is unfortunately untouchable, but the good news is there are many talented and passionate artists with works of art available and affordable for all budgets. Following are several thoughts you should keep in mind when purchasing art.

Know what you are purchasing – always make sure you understand exactly what you’re purchasing. Take a note of what kind of material the artwork is created on (canvas, watercolor paper, wood, etc), as well as what kind of medium was used (oil painting, watercolor, pastel, acrylic, pencil, charcoal, ink). If you are unable to determine this by looking, don’t be afraid to ask the artist or dealer what it is.

Buy what you like – as long as it is within your budget (see below), feel free to purchase art which reflects your interests and personality instead of worrying about styles or trends.

Buy paintings that match your current interior - when shopping for art for a specific part of your home, try to keep in mind the color scheme, current decorations and the style of furniture utilized in your home, be it contemporary or conservative.

Never exceed your budget – it’s important to remember what your exact budget is at all times. If there are funds leftover after an initial art purchase, think of saving your funds for that must-have sunset painting you’ve had your eye on as you next investment.

Questions to Ask the Seller:

Who is the artist – many times you will encounter the artist themselves selling their own original paintings and prints, but other times you may be dealing with a reseller or dealer.

Is the artwork signed and or numbered – original works of art are typically signed by the artist. If a signature is not readily visible, ask about the signature and if it is original artwork or a reproduction. If it is a reproduction, inquire if the print is a limited edition (therefore numbered) as these are typically worth more than a simple print reproduction.

Ask for contact information – if you like the artist’s works don’t be afraid to ask for a business card, email, website or a gallery where their art is on display. Having the ability to see more of the artist’s work can give you a better sense of who the artist is and what motivates them.

Best Places to Hang Seascape Art:

Deciding on where to place your new art can be an even more difficult task than deciding on what piece to buy; but there are some rooms that are better suited to one particular painting or another.

Living room – A showcase piece of artwork typically is on display in this room as this space is valued as an area of importance for most owners.

Den/Great room – the most lived in room of the house (besides the kitchen), should display your most favorite paintings or prints as it is the place that sees the most action.

Kitchen – typically the heart of every home should present art that satisfy the needs of the heart and soul of its owners as any culinary masterpiece satisfies the stomach.

Bathroom – this room is a place of personal hygiene, self-image and quietude. Artwork should reflect the personality and rationale of the persons using this room.

Bedroom – another private living area of the home which should truly reflect the personalities of the people who live there. Thoughtful, serene and age appropriate artwork is best utilized in this room of rest and personal reflection.

Tips for Packing and Traveling Lite - By: Peter.Taylor
How-to Pack and Travel Lite

In this day and age of traveling cephalalgia, there are a few packing tactics to employ. To cut out an extra thirty to forty minutes at the arriving airport, start with packing small luggage. Since carry-ons can not exceed a linear dimension of 45 inches, you can escape the fiasco of the baggage terminal by simply packing and traveling light. To learn how to pack all your needs into one suitcase, read more.

Use the following pithy packing tips to make your travel light:

Make a list. Compose a pack list. Be sure to coordinate shirts and blouses with bottoms. To maximize your traveling wardrobe fashion savoir faire, stick with solids and versatile basics. Rule-out any clothes that do not match other items.

Roll 'em up please. The best way to fit all your clothes is by rolling pants and shirts. First fold each item in half. Then simply roll. To try to maintain any creases, start on the bulkiest end of the article of clothing.

Gear up. How to make an awe-inspiring impression out of a basic or mundane outfit? For the most glam appeal, accessorize with a vibrant tie (for him) or a florid scarf (for her). Multihued accessories can liven up just about any attire.

Minimize bulk. After you check for space, edit outfits - ruthlessly. Try to pack microfibers with wrinkle and stain free comfort. With most of your attire, stay in the same color scheme - in case you have to layer up for warmth.

Employ shoe smarts. For men, any leather rubber-soled shoes can make the day and night transition, easy. For woman, a pair of flip-flops, strappy sandals and comfy wedges can serve all casual - chic dressing needs.

Put under garments on the top. To reduce the embarrassment of under garments becoming the side show attraction of the open luggage scan, place all panties in a plastic bag free of any clippers, lighters or other questionable paraphernalia. For expedient security review, place the transparent bag on top of your other items so security can access the bag without ruining your efficient packing method.

Lose Extra Baggage. Leave the heavy travel guide at home. Duplicate important resources to keep your luggage free of extra pounds. Since most hotels and resorts provide irons and blow-dryers --leave yours at home for light travel.

Leave restricted items at home. If you want to make it through security extra fast, avoid any firearms, weapons, box-cutters, scissors, razors, lighters and any other item that may be used in a terrorist situation.

A TIME-TRAVEL POSTCARD - By: Peter.Taylor
Seeking a spot of serenity somewhere in the universe, I recently booked a deep-discount dodgy berth on the ‘White Elephant Express Space Shuttle’, to a little known place in a galaxy far, far away.

“IT” (otherwise known as HD 36405.b) is not your average “oddball” exo-solar planet made of rock that wobbles on its end and zips around a nearby star in less than 2.46 days.

Most linear thinkers have a great deal of difficulty even comprehending why on earth anyone in their “right mind” would be interested in visiting a planet called “IT”. Not being a linear thinker with an investment in the “right” answer, I didn’t give a hoot. After all, what does one (who walks on water and listens to miffed mortals all day long) do for a frigging night off, now I ask you?

If truth be told, (after reading random excerpts from “The Itty Bitty Bunkum Book About Life, the Universe and Practically Everything Under the Sun Not To Mention Stuff Going On In Remote Galaxies), I was simply delirious. According to its noted author, Dr. Jarn Leffer, “IT is a ’must-see’ for those with little time on their hands and a passionate interest in Innocuous Things.”

As planets go, “IT” is a pretty ho-hum celestial pit-stop with perhaps one exception… the welcome notice that reads, “Cosmic Cowboys - Welcome to the furthest unexplored outreaches of the Galaxy … Home to the Flop Fairy and Oodles of Gadflies!”

“IT” is populated by colonies of giggling, green grasshoppers . What else would you expect to inhabit a far-flung, fantasy-challenged hellhole like this? But, what made “IT” strictly speaking a strange place was the fact that the inhabitants munch on green, biodegradable garbage bags just for fun. Lacking masticating capabilities, the gadflies process their food by vigorously jumping up and down on it. No wonder they have no need for fast-food franchises, strip malls or landfills!

Anyway, I picked up this picturesque postcard of the blessed ballyhooing buglugs. They look perfectly happy but don’t be deceived. In reality, they’re just a gang of glad-handing grasshoppers. They don’t play golf, eat burgers, or drink beer -- and none can frost a rock! Come to think of it, apart from the company of bugs and the elusive flop fairy, this pathetic planet has precious little going for IT!!

To put "IT" bluntly, life on “IT” is just shy of a tittynope*. The jolly green grasshoppers and the carefully manicured green fairways with sand traps as far as the eye can see certainly make for an utterly harmless world. Regrettably, without a pair of golf clubs, a dimpled white ball, and the notion that 19th hole even exists on this planet -- ”IT” is about as fun as bag of toads!

Life Lesson 42: Remember to talk to your travel agent before ever embarking on a flight of fancy to a planet called “IT” in a galaxy named “Have-a-Nice-Day”!!

__________

*"Tittynope" for you whiffling word-peckers means "a small quantity of anything left over".

If you want to know what those green, glad-handing grasshoppers from "IT" look like -- ask any four-year old, or failing that request some help from a Flying Saucer Club member.

Add the New Braunfels Texas Wurstfest to Your Fall Travel - By: Peter.Taylor
Willkommen zum WURSTFEST! Prosit, und hab' Spasz!” is the slogan for this really appealing annual event. It means “Welcome. Cheers! To your health, and have fun!”

Combining a unique German community in South Texas, great food, fabulous bands imported from Germany for the occasion, amusement rides, affordable entry, a well-run event and often beautiful weather, the New Braunfels, Texas, “Wurstfest” has all the ingredients of a great family outing. (Plenty of local accommodations available, as this is an area where “gemütlichkeit” is plentiful and tourists are welcome.)

New Braunfels is located just a few miles north of San Antonio, Tx., which offers a full array of activities to include in your schedule – Fiesta Texas, Sea World, the Alamo, the RiverWalk, and wonderful Mexican food and markets, should you wish to make this a multicultural adventure.

Having just returned from a lovely evening at Wurstfest, I’m compelled to tell you how much fun it is. We began on a perfect fall evening unable to resist the smell of the sizzling pork chops and huge German sausages served on a stick, complimented by a great selection of beers, potato soup, German dinners, Reuben sandwiches, corn on the cob – and more -- and ended our evening with pfankuchen, funnel cake and coffee.

We rode the beautiful Ferris wheel and then settled under Das Grosse Zelt, the big tent, at the end of the Marktplatz to be charmed by the 10-piece brass band from Germany whose rousing tunes got everyone up and dancing – just as many kids as adults, and partners not at all required. They were only topped by the band that followed.

This Wurstfest, the celebration of German sausage, began in New Braunfels in 1961, just a one-day affair which nonetheless drew a crowd of 2,000 due to press coverage throughout the nation and in Germany.

Since then, it has grown to a ten-day affair with well-maintained permanent facilities drawing over 100,000 and raising many dollars for local charities. Your good time will also be a good deed!

You can learn more about Wurstfest at their official website, and from the Wurstfest Association, Post Office Box 310309, New Braunfels, Texas 78131-0309, 830/625-9167, or toll free 1-800-221-4369.

Admission is a mere $8.00 per person (children under 12 free), with special rates for early purchase, groups, and day discounts.

ADD ANHALT

If Wurstfest dates should ever coincide with the 3rd Sunday in October (and even if they don’t), make it a homerun by including public dancing at Anhalt Hall, just down the road apiece, about 28 miles west of New Braunfels.

Anhalt was settled by German pioneers around 1857 and this may be the oldest dance hall in Texas, with a newly renovated 6000 square foot hardwood dance floor usually featuring a German band (you MUST do the German Grand March) and then a C&W band (local talent).

It’s open air and you can sit in the grandstands and watch or pay to get on the dance floor. Kids welcome and great food and beer. It is run by the Germania Farmers Verein, originally established to protect the settlers and their livestock from Indians. It’s out in the country and an experience you don’t want to miss.

How far out in the country? Well, according to the website, in the 1970s “the population along Anhalt Road between Farm Road 475 and the hall was estimated at ten.” Population figures for 2000 were not available.

Admission and ample parking are free; there’s a minimal charge ($7?) if you want to get on the dance floor (which you will)!

To read more about Anhalt, go to the Texas Honky Tonk Dance Hall website
They also feature public dancing during Mayfest (3rd Sunday in May), and Summerfest (last Saturday in July).
