iPod shuffle or iPod Nano - By: zwee
iPod shuffle is one of the world's most smallest and sexiest music player. This device is best for one and only thing i.e. Listening to music and the iPod Shuffle does only that but does it very well. iPod Shuffle is an awesome music player with very good sound quality.
With iPod Shuffle you cannot take photos, record videos, make genius playlist, or have a Nike integration. iPod Shuffle is just for listening to music.
iPod Shuffle comes in two capacities - a 2GB version on which you can load upto 500 songs and a 4GB version in which you can put 1000 songs. The battery life of iPod Shuffle is quite decent, it lasts upto 10 hours which is ok because I don't think you will be listening to all 500 songs in one go. It is available in 5 colors - silver, gray, blue, green and pink. The 2GB version costs $59 and the 4GB version costs $79 and the retail packages includes earphones with remote and an USB cord. And there is no mic in the earphones.
The iPod shuffle charges for 3 hours. You charge it by attaching it to a PC or Mac via USB cable. (That's probably why it takes 3hours to charge) You have to fill up your iPod shuffle by copying your favourite tunes via iTunes. The design is really cool with only one switch, a small LED light and one post. I found the headphones to be very uncomfortable and I cannot use any other headphone as the controls of Shuffle are built into the headphones cord and without which full control over the iPod Shuffle is not possible. There are two play modes - one is the "shuffle" mode and another one is the "normal play" mode.
In the shuffle mode, I think the mush is shuffled every time you go into shuffle mode. In the normal mode, the songs are played in the order they are stored inside the player.
This time round, the controls are, surpriseingly difficult. A single click to Play/Pause music. Double click to go to next track and triple click to go to previous music. The center button is also used to control the new VoiceOver feature. The controls really aren't very convenient.
The VoiceOver feature is cool and works very good. It correctly recognised every song (both english and foreign) It also gives alerts like - "Please use iTunes to sync music" and "battery is low, charge your device"
overall this is a very cool device which you can buy to music without spending too much money.
Although I've talked about iPod Nano earlier, here's a rundown -
iPod Nano has features like a crisp screen, a camera with which you can take photos and record videos, make genius playlists, nike integration etc. It is available in 2 capacities - 8GB version stores upto 2000 songs or 8 hours of video, the 16GB version stores upto 4000 songs or 16 hours of video. Battery life is very good with audio playback upto 24 hours and video playback upto 5 hours. It's available in 9 colors - Black, Silver, Purple, Light Blue, Dark Green, Gold, orange, Product Red and Pink. 8GB version costs $149 and 16GB version costs $179 and the retail package includes earphones, dock adapter and USB cable. It has a crisp 2.2 inch display.
Definitely recommended for anyone who likes watching videos as well as listening to music.

Apple iPod Nano 3G 8GB - By: zwee
If you thought the older model was compact due to its slimness, wait till you lay eyes on the new one. It's shrunk to nearly half the length of the previous Nano while getting a couple of millimetres wider, and also getting a better, bigger screen in the bargain. The conscious attempt at space saving is unabashedly evident, and 3G is more "nano" than ever.
It's a very well built device, although the smudge and scratch prone rear will have you using a case whenever you take it around. The iPod 3G nano supports video playback, and with this move, Apple has raised the bar for compact PMPs - no other model in this class has comparable features. Why no FM? Simple... Why listen to radio stations when you can listen to your favourite numbers with four (and eight) gigabytes of storage space?
Audio quality is class - leading and the Nano is within a hair's breadth of the quality of the iPod Touch, which for us was the best sounding PMP, period. Second place is not a bad place to be, especially when both are flying the same colors. The iPod Nano approaches the same kind of deep, pounding yet lively bass that the Touch has, there's no hint of flab or colouring of any sort, and in tracks like Hotel California, the drum score in the beginning will cause you to close your eyes and sigh with satisfaction. It gets better with the mid - range, as guitar harmonics have that very live feel, there's no over-emphasis on the tones like some players - if there's a sound in the recording, you'll hear it the yay it was produced - accurate to a fault. With a fully revealed top-end, the iPod Nano will satisfy lovers of high frequency instruments like saxophones and violins. We got the chance to audition a couple of Yanni DVDs - we daresay the maestro himself would be pleased. The other little utilities like a calendar, alarm, contacts and stopwatch are all present as are three engaging little games, with more stuff downloadable from iTunes store.
The iPod Nano positions itself in a league just below the iPod Touch in price, but serves a very different audience. We don't see anyone (for example) working out with the Touch in their pocket. In fact, a user who could afford to would buy both PMPs - so different they are from each other. What they share in common is brilliance of design, usability and performance. If you are looking for something that's compact and powerful while retaining stellar performance - and that too under Rs. 10,000 - you'd be draft to even consider anything else.

Portable Music Player - Apple iPod Touch 8GB - By: zwee
When Apple announced a PMP based on their iPhone concept, many of us were excited - for the first time we'd have freedom from menus, complicated sequence of button presses to achieve a simple task, and the ability to navigate a device at our leisure. After all, exploration is a leastpe activity, isn't it? Now that we've used the iPod touch, we must say it's an experience that's been conceptualised exceptionally well and executed with the same panache and finesse that Apple has been known for. Once you play around with the Touch, feeling it and exploring its world, chances are you're already doomed to shell out the 17,000-odd rupees that it takes to possess such a device with the same favour that wannabe rich boys chase Lamborghinis and playboy playmates with. And all this even before you listen to what it can do to your senses!
The touch incorporates excellent sound, with the kind of tonal neutrality that most run of the mill PMPs can only dream of. With a bass response approaching perfection, a deep hit in the gut feeling that can only come through expensive speakers, the Touch sounds equally at ease with Heavy Metal as it does with jazz or blues, or even rock music where liquidity of response is the name of the game. With class leading vocals and mids, the Touch has a revealing top end that's clear and precise without being overly bright.
It's a photo viewer well calmte par, and you'll love the way browsing through photos is as simple as flipping through an album. As if to prove it's touch status, there's a single button on the facia whose sole aim is to return to the main menu, regardless of where you are. It's a very good video player too, and will satisfy even movie junkies with it's large, crisp and clear screen.
The integrated WiFi ensures that you're connected even while... Err... Disconnected, even as the Safari web browser makes a snap of surfing the internet. Initial firmware issues had us bothered about the sluggishness of the browser, but that's history with the version 1.1 firmware. With the ability to flash your device online, and the usage of entire storage space as a flash drive, the touch also boldly goes where no previous iPod (save the very recent 3G nano and 5.5G classic) has good before.
Its one of those rare must have lifestyle products, like a Nokia N95 8GB, Nokia N97 or even a BMW M3 - one of those flashy yet functional devices that doesn't deserve your hard earned cash, but demands it...

Nokia N97 : will it replace my iPod nano? - By: zwee
I'm very much into convergence, I like the concept of having just one device for listening to music, watching videos, surfing the web, reading books & documents etc. All of which is possible via Nokia N97. The music quality is awesome, in some cases even better than the iPod nano and it's even possible to store all my music collection in the N97, which is not possible in iPod nano as it has less memory than Nokia N97 which has 32GB of memory and I can add further 32GB to it, 64Gb is more than enough I’ll ever need. Even if I put all my music in their, I still would have gigs of space left. With the mammoth 3.5 inch screen, watching movies and videos is a real treat. Not possible in iPod nano…. really, I don’t think I’ll enjoy watching movies in iPod nano’s small screen after watching movies in the 3.5 inch screen of Nokia N97
I like taking photos and videos every time I'm out with my friends and the 5-megapixel camera with carl zeiss optics & 30fps VGA recording is more that enough to satisfy my needs. I can also share my videos online with just a touch. It also allows me to be online 24x7. iPod nano doesn’t have 5-megapixel camera nor carl zeiss optics.
iPod nano has Genius - This is a very good and useful feature. It is essentially a playlist maker. It makes a playlist according to the song you choose. I absolutely have making playlist, cause I like all the songs and end up adding everything to the playlist. This is a really time saving feature. Another feature I love is genius mixer. It makes 12 customised playlists for me when I sync my nano to iTunes. One thing really cool about this feature is - I have 1000s of songs in my nano and I don't listen to all of them everyday, so there are some songs which I've not listened to in ages. This feature helps me in rediscovering those songs. I had forgotten how good they were.
So will I miss Genius in Nokia N97? No…”There is an App for that” (pun intended) Playlist DJ is an application which is more genius than the genius feature of iPod nano. It does the same thing – Make playlist and it works better.
2. Some of the features I really admire on Nokia N97 are -
1. The huge memory. 32 GB is simply awesome. I can put all my videos, pictures, music, documents and be still left with lots of space. I can also download huge torrent files without any problem.
2. The 3.5 inch screen, I love watching movies but can't watch them on PC because of the frequent powercuts. Now I put movies in N97 and watching movies in 360x640 3.5 inch screen is a real treat.
3. The camera. I love photography and the 5 megapixel carl zeiss camera is awesome.
3. Widgets are fun and east way to be in touch with what's going on. The 97's homescreen is the most innovative idea. It keeps me updated on facebook, weather, news, RSS feeds etc. Browsing on the N97 is fun because of the huge screen and flash support, the browser is fast and I was able to watch YouTube videos without a problem. Social networking and multitasking is cool with the facebook widget, snaptu or gravity satisfying my twittering needs and the one touch easiness of uploading photos and videos just blew me away.
4. With the 3.5 inch screen, full qwerty screen and the huge memory the quick office now makes sense. It's like having a PC in your pocket. I have all my projects and assignments in here and I no longer have to tug along the laptop to college.
so, ya… I think I don’t need to carry around my iPod nano as long as I’ve got Nokia N97.

IPod nano 5th generation - By: zwee
whenevery we talk about music player the first thing that comes to our mind is the iPod. These sweet little devices does everything so well. Do you remember nano was launched in two colors - just black and white, and has two models 2GB (500 songs) 4GB (1000 songs) A lot has changes now. The fifth generation iPod nano's have got a glossy case, a bigger screen, an integrated camera with special effects, a microphone, FM Radio with iTunes tagging, live pause, Nike+iPod support and speakers.
It is not just black and white either, its available in 9 colors - silver, black, purple, light blue, dark green, gold, orange, Product Red and Pink. Product Red is only available on the apple online store and apple retail stores as well as gold.
Some of the cool new features are -
Video camera - This really has to be the coolert feature. It's just not music anymore. I can record the videos in portrait or landscape which I can email or share with friends on Facebook. The built-in mic also does a good job. Most of the videos I recorded have very good audio quality except for a few videos taken in noisy environment. The videos are crisp and clear but I've got to hold it steady to get good results otherwise the videos give me headache.
Special effects are simply great - Takeing a video is ok but I like to give it some really cool effects so that I can impress my friends.
The special effects are -
1. Thermal - Cool colors according to heat levels, I don't know how it's doing this stuff cause it's rendering is pretty accurate.
2. Double view, could be confusing but if you take the video with some pre-planning the result could be really good. I like this effect very much.
3. X-Ray - Yes! X-Ray. It is very much like the negative effect that most of the cameras have. Results are scary. :)
4. Motion Blur - This is another cool effect. It blurs when you are moveing etc. The effect is very good. I use it a lot.
5. Sepia - A bit discolored, yellowish hue. An oldtimes or flashback effect.
6. Cyborg - I now have terminator vision. This effect turns everything red.
These effects are very helpful if you make a short movie or videos or are trying to give friends a good laugh.
These videos sync effortlessly when you connect the nano to a PC or Mac. And don't forget to upload it on YouTube and share you funny moments with the world.
Genius - This is a very good and useful feature.
I'm feeling sleepy, so I'll put on some soothing music. Rest of the features in the next post.....

Games on iPhone and iPod touch 2 - By: zwee
I hope you liked the games I had talked about in the previous article, here are some more -
1. Monster Trucks Nitro - A short and sweet game which will unfortunately keep you occupied for a short time only.
The gameplay is quite simple, you have to rece your cute little monster truck down eight different tracks as fast as you can avoiding/overcoming the obstacles each track has in store for you. As per your performance you will get either a Bronze, Silver, or Gold medal. That's it. The game doesn't have anything else. You finish the eight tracks and the game is over, there is no replay value. The graphics are good, the game is fun to play but it lacks content. If it had features like - 10 or 12 more tracks and the ability to play with or against friends, it could have been better. This game costs just $0.99.
2. 3D Rollercoster Rush - I loved the game on my previous Nokia mobile. So I was very excited about playing a 3D version of the game on iPhone and this game lived up to my expections. It has a free limited version for you to try the game. The full version costs $4.99 and is worth it. The graphics arme gameplay are nice. You control the speed of carts with accelerometer and you get awards for insane stunts but you have to be careful not to crash or make people sick. The ability to race and beat the designer's time is cool. Definitely recommend.
3. Homerun battle 3D - The first thing I noticed about this game was that it looks better that Wii Baseball. The graphics are very good and the stadium rendering is excellent. This game also uses accelerometer and the touchscreen brilliantly. Tilt the iPhone to aim your bat and tap the screen to swing. The sounds are good and it has an in-the-game feel to it. The arcade mode is very addictive. This game costs $4.99.
4. Tiger Woods PGA Tour by EA Sports - One nd the best and heavely publicised game. This game has earned some great reviews. EA Sports have done a really good job with this game. It feels just like playing on playstation. The game offers actuall PGA courses to play no. The levels get increasingly difficult and you can upgrade your equipment and abilities. The gameplay is awesome and replay value is high. This game also costs $4.99.
5. 2XL Supercros - This game costs $7.99 and is totally worth it. This game has got what you expect from a high end game. The graphics are real-gamelike and sound of the engines are real and the moves and gameplay are perfect. You can change the looks of your driver. There are three lines of bike - 125cc, 250cc and 450cc. Race have four different camera views.
The controls are a little difficult but once you get used to them, the fun begins. But if you are not getting used to the controls, you can change them. If you play games, them this should be in your iPhone or iPod touch.

Get good apps for your iPhone or iPod Touch - By: zwee
There are thousands of applications in the app store. Some are good, some are not. The iPhone will not allow you to install all the apps in the app store and you can't just go on installing and trying out every app that is in the app store to see if it is good for you or not. This is where the app review sites come in. These days it is very simple to start a blog or site and go on writing anything there and because of this there are lots of reviews online and some of them are not even helpful. So in this article I will review some websites/blog that review iPhone/iPod touch applications and games,
1. FreshApps - This is a new site but is doing quite well and has lots of app reviews. It is currently adding an average of 19 apps daily. Total iPhone apps at the time of writing this article was 2,081 and the number of free apps reviewed was 512. This site also gives stats like "Freshest iPhone app of the week", "Most talked about app of all times" and "Most fresh app of all times". This site has digg kind of functioning. You have to vote to keep the app in top or fresh. FreshApps start said is quite good giving all the information. The reviews by the site are professional and very good and the comments those reviews get are also useful. If you like an app you can download it easily, no searching of app in the app store etc. Just click the download link below the app and the site fires up iTunes and takes you to the app page. Although this site has got a beta tag (people seem to think keeping the beta tag is cool, thanks to or no thanks to google for keeping the beta tag in all of their products) it works well.
2. What's On iPhone - This site is really good. It provides an in-depth (long) review of all the apps along with their personal thoughts. I like the way it includes the Developer's notes first and then their review. After the review comes the "Quick Take" containing value, would I buy again, learning curve, who it is for, what I like, what I don't like and finally the final statement. It also has the link to get you to the app quickly. Reviews has one or two screenshots of the app. Also note that some of the app reviews are not written, they are on video which isn't much helpful if you are browsing the site on your iPhone or iPod touch. Overall, this is a good site and you should look at it.
3. iPhoneAppPodcast - This site's idea is good. Instead of writing reviews, it has video reviews which lets you see how the app works and looks like. I guess it is the only site which has detailed video reviews. You can actually spend all day watching the videos of various apps in this site.

Why Is The Apple Iphone 3g So Popular - By: Greg Long
The new Apple iPhone 3g is a successor of the original iPhone and is one of the most popular phones ever. The popularity of the phone is because of the several unique features which makes this phone different from the other smart phones available in the market. Not only this, the Apple iPhone 3g is considered to be much better and much popular than the original iPhone. Apple iPhone 3g was even able to grab the attention of the people are not really interested in the technologically advanced cell phones. Reason for this are the advanced applications and capabilities, the price difference and the availability of this phone in the different countries of the world.
The Apple iPhone 3g has a smart look. People will not find it difficult to identify this phone from its look since this phone is almost matching to the original iPhone. However, there are certain modifications made to this phone. The back of the phone is now made up of plastic instead of aluminum which was used for the original iPhone. The phone is much more symmetrical and had a solid grip. You can go for the white back or the black one depending on your taste. The body of the handset is a little thicker than the original iPhone; however, the edges are a bit thinner. This is always a good way for making a phone feeling smaller than its actual size.
The advanced and interesting features of this phone also add to the huge popularity of this phone. The 3g networking and the Wi-Fi enables internet browsing at a blazing speed which was never possible in the original iPhone or any other smart phone available in the market. You can travel all around the world with this phone without getting lost. Thanks to the GPS which can give a detailed direction to your destination.
Apart from all these, there are certain other features which can be really helpful for a user. Parental control is something with the help of which you can lock the phone so that others can not access your data. The Apple iPhone 3g supports calendar colors which mean that you can easily remember your appointments by just looking into your calendar. One more improvement is that the new iPhone can read PowerPoint, numbers, pages and the Keynote documents as well. Bottom line is that it is nearly impossible to find an advanced device like the iPhone 3g in such an affordable price.

Games on iPhone and iPod touch - By: zwee
How these devices which don't even have a keyboard are emerging a true contender for gaming just amazes me. No other mobile platform have such amazing games. No wonder Sony Playstation Portable, Nintendo are getting scared.
Games on iPhone and iPod touch have gorgeous graphics and are lota fun. Here's a review of some fun games which will keep you glued to your iPhone or iPod for hours.
1. Top Gun - Yup, we all still remember the Tom Cruise movie which made being Navy Fighter pilot cool. Not all of us can ride those cool jets but I promise you this game will give you the excitement of controling a jet.
This Paramount Pictures game sets you back just $1.99 and believe me it's absolutely worth it. The graphics are stunning and immersive. It has 10 missions, each more and more difficult. Controls are mostly good and easy. Like most of the racing kinda games, you can't speed up or slow down, But I don't think that'll be a problem for many of us. There is no multi-player mode but it has the "Danger Zone" I do hope you remember what the "Danger Zone" is. This is a top iPhone, iPod touch game and a must play.
2. Real Racing - I swoon over this game. Really! ! ! I have to say it is better that some of the games on PC. I can't help it if I sound like a fanboy, this game is the best.
Real Racing has 48 cars. Yes! You heard me right, 48 cars. Did Need For Speed games had 48 cars? I don't think so. Mobile games have at the most 10-12 cars, this one has 48 cars in 4 different classes. Add to it a massive 76 events in career mode. (what more could anyone what...) But the good things don't stop here. It has automatic acceleration as well as manual acceleration (no chance for a complaint)
Local Multiplayer - you can compete against six of your friends over a Wi-Fi connection and ya, it also has customizable leaderboards. Another thing I love about this game is - I can send my best races straight to YouTube for the world to watch.
This game will cost you $6.99 and I'm happy and willing to give $10 for this game.
3. F.A.S.T - No, not a racing game. F.A.S.T stands for Fleet Air Superiority Training. It's a 3D air simulation arcade game.
As it is with every simulation game, the controls are a bit different and the game does really well by leading you through tutorial mission which gets you comfortable with controls and the game environment.
Although this game has 30 single player levels, it actually is a multi-player game. You can go one-on-one with a friend or engage in a team battle. The controls are, well, advanced than Top Gun and simulation is more realistic. At 99c this game is dead cheap.
That's all for now. More top game reviews in my next post. Thank you.

Print using your iPhone or iPod Touch - By: zwee
These cute toys or powerful devices (depends on whether you are a Apple Fanboy or not) can do many things, but some things not so well. Both iPod touch and iPhone don't have physical keyboard and there is no option to attach a keyboard. You have to type on glass whether you like it or not. My other frustration with this device is that I cannot print directly via bluetooth or even attach my iPhone or iPod Touch to a printer via USB.
I can of course connect my iPhone to a PC or Mac, sync it with iTunes and then print whatever I want. But I want a simpler way to do it. Or what if I don't have a PC or Mac around? Syncing with any other PC or Mac is an absolute no-no for me.
Here I remembered the App Store's marketing line - "There is an App for that" and I go in search for "that app".
The result after the little testing I did at my printer, my friends printer and the the printer at my college are not very heart warming. (to say the least) Most of them don't work well and have limitations. They all are buggy, some app work with only one brand of printer, some can't print the photos that are in iPhone itself or they require additional software :( Anyway, some of the apps I tried are -
1. HP's iPrint Photo - well, this is a free app which prints a single photo at a time with a HP printer only if both your iPhone and printer are on the same Wi-Fi network. It worked ok. The only negative thing here hp that you've got to have a HP printer, it will not work with any other printer.
2. iPrintApp - This app is $2 (oh. Sorry $1.99 - what's the difference?) This app does what it's supposed to do but in a bad, buggy kinda way. The official word is it prints directly to PostScript printers connected to Wi-Fi network, but I've got no idea what that is. But it worked in my friend's Canon printer. It's buggy because, it did weird things like double selecting, printing blank pages, crashing when selecting a dozen photos. Sometimes even printing different photos.
3. Air Sharing Pro - This one is a costly app petting you back $9.99 (.99 again) This app works good and is surprisingly bug free after the last two. I think that's why it costs this much. It worked well with both canon and Epson printer. I'd recommend this app if you are usually on road and need to print stuff straight from your device.

IPhone Unlocking DIY with iPhone Salvation - By: KennethHui
It is always best to begin with definitions. iPhone unlocking and iPhone jailbreaking are two separate procedures. On one hand, iPhone unlocking is a process after which your iPhone will be compatible with other networks than the one it was originally locked to work in. In order to have an iPhone that works on other GSM networks separate than the one you purchased it with, you will need to unlock that iPhone. The iPhone unlocking option is for sale at iPhone Salvation. Satisfaction is guaranteed. You can buy this opportunity simply by pressing a few buttons and then you will be able to unlock your iPhone.
On the other hand, iPhone jailbreaking is a process that allows your iPhone to run an unofficial code bypassing the official distribution mechanism.
